We can deduce from the opening scripture that many people are living in bondage of all kinds because they are ignorant of the truth. The question is what is truth? The truth is the Word of God (John 17:17); the truth is Jesus Christ of Nazareth (John 1:14). Therefore, anyone who wants to be free should know Christ and His Word. Jesus Christ frees anyone who believes in Him and makes Him their Lord; the scriptures on the other hand direct the freed to live a life of holiness and perpetual victory.
