Two Masters

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24 (KJV)

When Jesus Christ used the word “serve”, He used it to represent total devotion. In other words, no one can be totally devoted to two masters. Due to personal differences, he will be drawn to one more than the other, hence loving one and hating the other. God and mammon, or worldly riches, are two different masters. You cannot choose both since God demands full devotion to Him, spirit, soul, and body. Jesus Christ asked what it should profit a man if he gained the whole world and lost his soul, meaning that if you are given the opportunity to choose, choose to serve God. Dear reader, if you have the opportunity to make a choice between serving God and worldly riches, what will you choose? Share your comments with other readers!
