Christian Worship Songs

Christian worship songs are as broad in scope as the types of people who sing them. Sometimes the older congregations are perceived as being less upbeat and more sober. Still they are beloved by a whole group of Christians. They are not necessarily slow in tempo or in the nature of the song. Regardless of the age of the song, you can find up-tempo songs and more solemn pieces to sing, listen to and enjoy.

Unlike texts from the Bible, Christian worship songs are powerful in the melodies and in the words matched to the melody. If you want a worship experience that is unique, set aside the instruments and simply read the words either mentally or aloud. You may be surprised, at the strength of the words and the mental pictures they evoke.

Another way to use these songs is to simply listen to instrumental renditions of the familiar songs. Many denominations have unique worship songs, but there are songs which are known to believers and non-believers alike. Many funeral services use a rendition of the song “Amazing Grace” as part of the service. If you read the words of that song, particularly the final verse, it is a wonderful example of worship of God.

Congregational singing uses the words and the music in the services. The songs may be directed by a song leader, sometimes called a “worship leader”.  Accompaniment can be by piano, keyboard, organ, or by a guitar and drums group. The words can be found in a hymnal, music sheet, or by words displayed on a video screen.

As an act of worship to God, the Bible tells us to come before Him with singing and with musical instruments. You may have favorites which are more meaningful to you than others. There may be times when the words or music of a particular song answer a need in your life. If you are musically inclined, you can take words of Scripture and develop your own Christian worship songs to present as a solo or as a memory aid to learn texts from the Bible.  Offer the words and the music in adoration to God.
