The Bible speaks of strength in both a physical and a spiritual sense. Synonyms for strength are “steadfast” and “valor”. The Scriptures indicate that man’s strength is nothing when compared to the strength of God. Recognizing that His is the power that holds the universe together is a first step toward finding our place in the plan of God.
Being strong physically can be the result of healthy living. God gave a lot of information about a healthy diet. He talked about exercise and healthful living in every aspect of life. He referred to the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. All of the foods we eat and the things we drink are to be aimed at improving health.
In a battle with principalities and powers that are unseen, it is important to ask for the strength of God who has already won the battle against darkness. Satan is a defeated foe and the angels that excel in strength are promised to be protectors of each of us.
Being strong in the spiritual or emotional plane is another thing that is described in the Bible. God wants us to realize that our strength comes from him, not from any actions we can take under our own power. God has promised the indwelling of the Holy Spirit so that we don’t have to overcome with our own power. It is provided by Him so that we can be victors over weakness and indecision.
