A Healing Prayer For My Cousin

If you have a cousin who needs healing, as a Christian you can become the salt and light to them by praying for their healing (Matthew 5:13-16). You can either approach him or her personally and pray for healing right then, or you can also remember them in prayer and pray for their healing. Our God is “Jehovah Rapha.” This means that He is the God Who heals. If God in His power could create the universe, how much easier could He manage the healing that your cousin needs in his or her life?

Father in heaven, I pray for healing upon my cousin in the name of Jesus. I pray that the sickness shall leave their body. Restore their physical well-being and protect them from any sickness and disease. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Is a Healing Prayer for My Cousin?

A healing prayer for your cousin is not limited to a petition for physical healing from whatever sickness or disease your cousin has. The healing prayer you can pray for your cousin may also include mental and emotional healing.

Mental healing is needed if your cousin has a condition where he or she is mentally struggling. One example of this disorder is clinically diagnosed depression. Another is PTSD, such as some veterans suffer due to trauma and stress that they experienced while serving in the armed forces or during a battle. Regardless of what mental healing your cousin may need, it is not too serious for the power of God to heal. Sometimes healing may come quickly, and sometimes it may take a while, but this does not change the truth that God can heal.

Emotional healing can also be what your cousin needs. While our emotional well-being is under the scope of our mental well-being, it still deserves to be discussed on its own. For example, it could be that your cousin went through something very painful, such as a close friend’s betrayal, being abandoned by people, words that have hurt him or her deeply, or many others. Whatever those emotional wounds your cousin might have, God can heal them. In fact, in (Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.) it is written that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. The Gospel is also filled with stories of people who have emotional wounds. One example is the woman at the well, who was renewed by her encounter with Christ (John 4:1-26).

However, the most important healing we can receive is spiritual healing, where we are healed from our very worst sickness—our sinful hearts. That is precisely why no matter how much work we do, we will never save ourselves and are filthy rags before God because sin lies at the very core of our hearts (Isaiah 64:6 and Mark 7:14-23). Only through the Gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit can our hearts of stone become hearts of flesh; new creations that have been freed from the bondage of sin. One evidence of this is the change in one’s desire. It does not mean that someone becomes perfect right away, but one fruit of a person’s becoming a new creation is their heart’s upright desires. If before they didn’t care if they sinned, now they want to honor God and hate sin (Galatians 5:17  For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever  you want.). Of course, that would also require that you preach the Gospel to your cousin if he or she does not know Christ yet.

How Can I Pray for Healing for My Cousin?

You will pray best by knowing what kind of healing your cousin needs. Are they going through a painful season and therefore need emotional healing? Is your cousin having some mental struggles? Or perhaps they are sick or in the hospital, and they need prayers to recover?

When you pray for healing, you come before God’s throne of grace to present to Him the prayer requests that you have (Philippians 4:6-7 and Hebrews 4:16 6 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.). At times, you may be feeling anxious or worried for your cousin, whatever kind of healing they may need. It is in those particular moments that you can pray to ask God for your cousin’s well-being. In 1 Peter 5:6-7, it tells us that we are to humble ourselves and cast our troubles to God, Who cares for us.

Heavenly Father, I pray for my cousin, who is sick and is going through something painful. I pray that you will restore her soul physically and emotionally. I pray for healing upon her in the name of Jesus. Amen.

When you pray for healing for your cousin, remember to be direct and to the point when asking. You don’t want to heap up empty phrases or make your prayer unnecessarily long, thinking that it would make them better heard by God (Matthew 6:7  And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.). Also, do not forget that we must always petition in faith and humility before God.
