A Prayer For Extreme Anger To Go Away Quick

We will always encounter circumstances that could trigger us to become angry. Sometimes it is right for us to feel angry, but sometimes it is not. If a husband gets angry with his wife and yells at her because she asked him if he could take out the trash as he goes to work, even if he is running late, getting angry and yelling at his wife is not necessary. However, if two friends decide to meet together at a certain time, but one is two hours late, the punctual friend is right to be angry. But in that situation, one could always exercise self-control. Just because one could be rightfully angry at a given situation does not mean he or she is allowed to hurt others or be consumed by anger.

Heavenly Father, whenever we encounter people or circumstances that make us angry, even if I feel my anger is justified, give me the grace to show mercy and kindness. May the compassion and grace You have shown me in Christ motivate me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Does the Bible Say About Anger?

Some Christians say that if you get angry, you have sinned. However, that is not what the Bible says at all. In Ephesians 4:26, it is written that we can be angry, but we should not sin. Sin is the result of the actions that we do and the words that we say whenever we are consumed by anger. For example, when those two friends agreed to meet at a certain time but one was late for two hours without even communicating, the punctual friend is right to be angry. He or she waited for two hours without the other friend even giving him or her a heads-up about what was happening. However, it does not warrant the punctual friend being rude and saying hurtful words to his or her friend just because he or she is rightfully angry. He or she can correct the person in the spirit of gentleness (Galatians 6:1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.).

What, then, shall we do whenever we feel anger? The Bible tells us that we are to exercise self-control. In Titus 2:11-12, it is written that the grace of God didn’t come just to bring us salvation, but it is also there to help us renounce ungodliness and world passions. If we are tempted to be driven by anger, we can say “no” to it and exercise self-control. Verse 12 tells us that God’s grace trains us to live in godliness, self-control, and uprightness.

Also, if we live in fear of the LORD, we are living in wisdom since fearing the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.). Fearing God means obeying His precepts and commandments. One of the things that God’s precepts tell us is always to discern our way and give thought to our steps (Proverbs 14:15 and Proverbs 14:8). That means we should think before doing something out of anger. The Bible also tells us that might is not being driven by anger or letting anger create devastating situations. Rather, might is executed when one can rule his or her spirit (Proverbs 16:32 Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.).

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

How Do I Pray for Extreme Anger to Go Away Quickly?

You really aren’t praying for the anger you feel to go away quickly. Instead, the best prayer you can pray is to ask God for the grace to exercise self-control. In Hebrews 4:16, it is written that in Christ we have the confidence to come before God’s throne of grace and ask for the grace and mercy that we need. Exercising self-control will be very difficult if you are trying to do it on your own. You must do it through Christ, Who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13).

Besides praying and asking God for the grace to exercise self-control, you can also pray for certain scriptures about self-control to be evident in your life. For example, in Proverbs 29:11, it is written that a fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. Therefore, you can pray for the grace to hold back and not be driven by your anger. Going back to the verses we discussed previously (Proverbs 16:32 and Proverbs 14:15 The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.), you can use those verses for praying to God for the grace to rule your spirit and always discern before doing something out of anger.

A Prayer for Extreme Anger to Go Away Quick

Father in heaven, given what just happened, I am feeling really angry. However, I will not let this anger cause me to sin. Give me the grace to exercise self-control by ruling over my spirit, holding back, and guarding my mouth from saying something hurtful. May I be consumed by Your grace and mercy in Christ and show love instead. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

In Ephesians 2:1-9, we see God’s mercy and grace toward us in the person and work of Jesus Christ. God has the right to be angry and judge us immediately. However, He is also gracious and merciful. He poured out His wrath upon His Son so that those who believe in His Son’s finished work won’t have to receive His wrath. If God was gracious and merciful to us, then so should we be to others.
