A Farmer’s Harvest Prayer

Genesis 1:1 is, for sure, a verse that every Christian knows. However, as often as we hear it, one of the truths that we can always get from it is that God is the Creator of everything. All created beings depend on God, while God does not depend on anyone. God is the source of everything. Just as all life is derived from God, everything we have or need is derived from God, including the harvest we pray for as farmers. (In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1)

Father in heaven, remind me that everything comes from You. Even the harvest yielded from the crops I have sowed and farmed is all because of Your grace and mercy toward me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Is a Farmer’s Harvest Prayer?

A farmer’s harvest prayer is a prayer a farmer prays for a healthy and abundant yield. There are many things that a farmer could pray for, including protection from the many threats that could ruin their harvest. For example, they can pray that no pests shall infest their crops. Many kinds of pests such as fleas, bugs, locusts, and even maggots could damage crops and ruin the hard work of farmers. Of course, if you are a farmer, you want a good quality harvest whether you intend to consume it or sell it.

Another thing that a farmer could pray for is good weather. The weather can do much damage and affect the quality of the harvest. For example, hail or a tornado can surely destroy any crop along its path. Therefore, a prayer for good weather and protection from any natural disaster that might destroy the crop is also one of the things a farmer can pray for concerning their harvest.

Of course, though this may sound general, a farmer could pray that the crops they sowed and took good care of with their hard work and diligence shall yield a productive harvest and that the quality of those crops would be high. Apart from the pests that may infest the crops and the natural disasters that may destroy them, many other factors could affect a farmer’s harvest.

Farming is a complex job. You have to consider many things such as the temperature, soil, fertilizers you put in, and many other things. Cultivating crops takes a lot of hard work and involves excellence and diligence. Therefore, praying for a good harvest and that a farmer’s hard work will bear fruit is essential to present before God (Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.)

How Can I Pray a Harvest Prayer?

You can pray a harvest prayer by asking or praying to God for abundance. In James 4:2, it is written that sometimes we do not have because we do not ask. Prayers are the means that God has given us so that we may ask Him so that He will grant us things that are within His will. That is why prayer for a good harvest is simply praying and asking God for abundance. (Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2)

Of course, you can pray for other things concerning a good harvest. As mentioned above, you can pray that no pests will infest or damage the crops that you have been cultivating. You can also include praying for nice weather throughout the farming season until the harvesting season and that no natural disasters will directly hit your crops. If bad weather is coming, you can pray that such a storm will pass by your crops. You can ask God for your, your family’s, and the crops’ protection from storms.

Last, we cannot expect a good harvest if we pray to God for that but are not diligent and faithful in cultivating the crops we are growing. That is why praying and asking God for a good harvest would also mean praying for the wisdom and grace to be faithful in cultivating our crops and being excellent in our farming.

Father in heaven, I pray for a good harvest at the end of the season. Give me and my fellow farmers the grace, strength, and wisdom that we need to be diligent in farming and learning how to farm better and more efficiently. Protect our crops from any pests that may infest them. Protect our crops as well from being destroyed by bad weather. We pray for a favorable environment for our crops throughout. All the harvest that we get is from You alone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As you pray and ask God for a harvest, remember that You come to God because you depend on Him. Everything you have, even the harvest you will reap, comes from His grace and mercy. Even the knowledge you have when it comes to farming comes from Him. And so, as you reap your harvest, do not forget to thank God, from Whom everything comes (1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.).
