A Prayer For My Soldier Son

Having a son join the army or military to serve his country is something to be truly proud of as a parent. That being said, it’s not easy to have a soldier son, as this will naturally make you worry as a mother or father. You can only hope and pray that you won’t receive any bad news about your son each day that you wake up. As we all know, being a soldier means putting your life on the line every day, so you can only depend on God’s power for safety and protection.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life of my son. I am blessed to have been a parent to such a wonderful soul. I pray that as he serves in the military, Your powerful hand of protection, wisdom, favor, and guidance will be upon him at all times, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Serving in the military is not easy. Your son will be physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally tested and tried with everyday discipline and training. But as Christians, we don’t need to worry or fear about anything in this life, as Jesus Christ is our Lord, and He is sovereign in our lives.

As you continuously pray for your soldier son and surrender his life to the hands of Abba Father, you can trust that your son is being watched over by Him. 

Romans 8:37 says, “Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us,” and your son is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus.

What can I pray for my soldier son?

As we have discussed, being in the military is not easy, so you can think about praying for your soldier son about concerns for his physical, mental, social, emotional, and even spiritual health and well-being. You can pray in the following ways for your soldier son:

1. Pray for his clarity and peace of mind in Christ

Being a soldier requires concentration, alertness, and listening skills in order to follow instructions, succeed at the daily training, and even survive when faced with combat. Thus, you should pray and declare peace of mind and clarity in Christ Jesus for his mental state. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving my son peace of mind and clarity as he fixes his mind on You so that he may do well in the military. May he be able to follow instructions clearly and hear Your voice of guidance and protection in times of adversity, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 

2. Pray for his supernatural strength and good health 

Having good physical health and strength is very important as a soldier. You must have the ability to endure harsh training that can take a toll on your body. You can pray for God’s divine strength and good health for your son because it is His perfect will for your son.  

3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing my son with supernatural strength and perfect health. He will be able to accomplish his tasks and soldierly duties because Your presence is always with him, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. Pray for wisdom and his social skills

Being a soldier is not a solo mission or an individual obligation to the country. You must work in a team and be subjected to different military officers and higher-ranking soldiers in order to create a strong fighting force that is adequately prepared for battle. To survive and be effective as a soldier, pray that your son will have wisdom and the ability to work well with different personalities in the military so that he is also socially successful in the army. Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for guiding my son to walk in humility and wisdom as he serves in the military. You give him the ability to work well with his team and walk in Christlikeness so that he may shine Your light in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. Pray for his emotional well-being

As we discussed above, you can sometimes experience emotional turbulence or disturbances when a challenging situation arises in the army. This can be due to physical burnout, mental oppression, or social problems, which can always affect one’s emotions, even if you’re a soldier. Still, everyone is human and is bound to feel different emotions, despite being a soldier. Pray that your son may find emotional stability in Christ and upon His Words alone so that whatever challenges he may face, he won’t be shaken. Jesus Christ promised in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for keeping my son’s emotional health intact. You alone know what he is going through internally. I pray for the promised peace of Christ to be upon him so that nothing may trouble him, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. Pray for his relationship with God.

One of the most important and powerful prayers you can offer for your soldier son is for his relationship with God, as only God can enable us in this life. The Bible says that without Christ, we can’t produce anything good and that we equate to nothing without Him (see John 15:5-7). When you have a deep relationship with God, fear, doubt, confusion, and instability have no place in your life because the Holy Spirit in you is stronger than anything else. 

Heavenly Father, thank You for keeping my son’s relationship with You strong and immovable. May Your Holy Spirit remind him of Your Word and prompt him into obedience, correction, repentance, and empowerment, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
