An Honest Man’s Prayer

Psalm 66:18

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me…

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me…

For prayers to reach the throne room of God and be effective, one must be so honest before the LORD, not hiding a single thing from Him especially when we sin against God.

You can read in Psalm 66:18 that the LORD would not have listened to David if he did not confess the sin in his heart. Our unconfessed sin hinders the effectiveness of our prayers These are the sins that we are aware of yet we tolerate them and don’t confess them before the LORD. This makes our prayers powerless and ineffective. It’s not that God is surprised and angry at His children when they sin but God wants to see the heart of His children believing in His goodness, grace, forgiveness and perfect love through Jesus Christ. Remember that God already dealt with the sins of mankind 2000 years ago on the cross. Our transparency and honesty before God matters a lot in receiving breakthroughs for our prayers.

If you know that you have done something that is against the will of God, simply bring it unto Him, be honest and ask for His forgiveness. Then repent and truly walk away from that sin in your life and allow the Holy Spirit to give you the wisdom and power to overcome it through the blood of Jesus Christ. When you humble yourself before God, confessing your sin and admitting your wrongs before Him, He will lift you up and He will hear your requests. He will certainly not reject you when you come to ask for His forgiveness. You are His beloved and He called you to be in union with the Trinity.
