Bible Verses About Evil

In the Bible, evil is not a positive thing. It is the absence of God’s goodness and presence and always results in suffering. The devil was once an angel who rebelled against God and brought evil into the world (Isaiah 14:12-17 and Ezekiel 28:12-19). The Bible teaches us that human beings are sinners who have sinned against God (Romans 3:23).

The Word of God can be used as a weapon against evil powers. God’s word has power over all evil powers because Jesus Christ defeated these powers on the cross. He destroyed death by death, defeated Satan, and broke his power by rising from the grave three days after his death on earth.

So, what does the Bible say about the different kinds of evil?

  • Sinful desires that lead us away from God (Romans 6:15-23)
  • Evil thoughts (Matthew 15:19)
  • Witchcraft (Galatians 5:19-21)

The Bible speaks of evil in many ways. It is a term used to describe humankind’s moral corruption or depravity, as well as the actual source or personification of evil. Moreover, the Bible uses various terms to describe evil, including “sin” and “the Devil.” The writer of Proverbs describes God as the Lord who hates evil (Prov. 6:16-19). The Devil is called “the father of all lies” (John 8:44) and deceives people into believing that he doesn’t exist (2 Corinthians 4:4). Let’s take a look at some Bible verses about wickedness and see what they say about it.

What Does the Bible Say About the Wicked?

The Bible is full of verses that talk about evil and wicked people. It says that there are some who delight in doing evil. They do these things because they love destruction (Proverbs 16:27). Evil people are often described as those who do not care about the things of God. They are proud, arrogant, and boastful (Proverbs 16:19). The following Bible verses talk about the wickedness of man:

Psalms 14:1-3

In these verses, we read about how the fool says in his heart that there is no God and that he is corrupt and has done abominable works. Then we see that the Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who seek after Him and if there is anyone at all who understands what is good and seeks after Him. We also learn that He sees that everyone has turned aside from Him and become corrupt. There is no one left except for himself who does good and seeks after Him!

Revelation 21:8

This verse describes people who reject God’s love and mercy through Jesus Christ as having their final fate determined at death. They will spend eternity separated from God in hell.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Bible Verses About Evil

Proverbs 16:25

The above verse is quite clear. It refers to the fact that a lot of people will choose a path that looks like it would lead them to success. However, this is far from being true because their way will lead them to destruction instead.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Bible Verses About Evil

Proverbs 12:10

This proverb is about wicked people that show no mercy toward their animals. They are cruel to them, and they also show cruelty to people as well.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Bible Verses About Evil

Matthew 24:5-5

Jesus says there will be many false Christs and false prophets. They will come and perform miracles so that people think they are God’s messengers. But they won’t be able to fool those who have been truly born again by believing in Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:3).

The Bible teaches that we should love the sinner but hate the sin (Luke 6:27-28). Therefore, those who sin and repent find forgiveness, and those who persist in their wickedness are punished (John 3:16).

What Bible Verse Protects You from Evil?

When we talk about the battle between good and evil, we often think of it as a physical fight. However, the war is being fought in our minds. Satan is a master at deception; he will use anything and anyone to destroy us. Therefore, we need to be aware of what he is doing at all times. The Bible says that we are protected from satan’s pitfalls by God’s presence and our trust in Him.

Psalms 91:2 is a wonderful and reliable verse that we must fully trust. Satan’s schemes are always aimed at drawing us away from God. He tries to make us think that our problems are too big for God to solve, he leads us into temptation so that we will sin, and he attacks our relationships with others so that we won’t have anyone to help us out or encourage us when we need it most. But if we stay close to God and keep ourselves unspotted from sin (James 1:13), then his schemes cannot harm us.

Does God Deliver Us from Evil?

The answer is yes! The Bible says that the Lord will keep us going out and coming in from this time forth and even forevermore. Our Lord’s promise in Psalm 121:8 is as sure today as it was two thousand years ago when He said that He will be with us (Matthew 28:20).

The Bible teaches that God delivers us from evil through our faith in Jesus Christ. It also teaches that we must have faith in Christ to be delivered from evil (Isaiah 43:2). When we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts to make us new creatures in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are then able to do things that we could not do before we trusted in Christ as our Savior and Lord (Philippians 4:13).

Wrap Up

Even though you may not see all of your thoughts as a form of satan, they are still all his doing. He has placed them in your mind and is responsible for them. When you recognize that you are satan’s victim and embrace the truth that Jesus Christ has borne his burden for you (praise God for His grace), you will be free from the eternal consequences of your sin. And one day, when God returns, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
