How To Pray For Children’s Ministry

Just as the Bible calls us to pray for our pastors, ministers, and church workers, we can also pray for specific ministries within our church (Ephesians 6:18-19). If pastors and full-time church ministers serve in your church’s children’s ministry, the Bible says we should pray for them. Even if those who minister in your church’s children’s ministry are volunteers, we should still pray for them. They minister because they are also our fellow brothers and sisters in the faith.

Heavenly Father, I pray for those who are ministering in our children’s ministry that You would continue to remind them of the impact they are making, for they are discipling the next generation of leaders to become followers of Christ and become God-fearing men and women of society. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Do You Have To Pray For Your Church’s Children’s Ministry?

You pray for your church’s children’s ministry because the Bible tells us to do so in Ephesians 6:18-19. The Bible shows us the importance of praying for those who minister, whether they are full-time ministers or volunteers. Just as we pray for our own well-being, we should also pray for what they need as ministers, like grace, strength, and wisdom. In 1 Thessalonians 5:25, the apostle Paul asks the church in Thessalonica to pray for him. The same can be seen in Hebrews 13:18, where the author asks the recipients of his letter to pray for him to have a clear conscience and always to live honorably.

With that said, pray for the ministers in the children’s ministry because they, too, have their own needs. However, don’t just pray for the ministers but also the ministry itself. Pray that the ministry will always be faithful to God and that it shall be fruitful. When you pray for this, you are committing the ministry or its work to the LORD (Proverbs 16:3).

It is also important to note that having a distinct ministry for children is up to the church. Some churches have them, and some don’t. Nothing is wrong with either scenario. A church’s population might be too small for them to have such a distinct ministry. At the same time, a church’s population might be too big, and they may not have enough ministers. Nonetheless, you can still pray that the children, the next generation of leaders of society, shall be taught in the ways of God and know who Christ is.

Heavenly Father, I pray for those who are discipling and teaching children in our church that they would be diligent in teaching them about who God is and what He is like, that they may learn to revere Him and love Him with all their hearts, minds, and souls. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How Do You Pray for the Children’s Ministry?

If your church has an existing children’s ministry, there are two aspects you can pray for: those who minister (whether full-time or volunteer) and the ministry in itself. As mentioned before, ministers have needs. Having the finances to meet their needs so that they can focus on doing ministry is just one consideration. They need strength as they encounter challenges, wisdom on how to do things and reach out to kids better, grace to teach them well about God and the things of God, and many more qualities. You can pray for this aspect by thinking about what need you want to support.

Heavenly Father, I pray for grace and wisdom upon our ministers and teachers in the children’s ministry. Give them the benevolence and mercy to always teach sound doctrine to the children and allow them to teach effectively in a manner that the kids easily understand. Give them strength whenever they find teaching difficult; children can be challenging to teach sometimes. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The next one is praying for the ministry itself. Start by keeping Proverbs 16:3 in mind, committing or dedicating your work or ministry to the LORD. As you pray, you will depend on God for the fruitfulness of the ministry. Pray that everything done in the children’s ministry shall always be done for the name of Christ and the sake of God’s glory. Everything is about God, including the children’s ministry.

Father in heaven, You are the God of grace whose grace is the only reason our church’s children’s ministry can be fruitful. I pray for the work of our ministers and volunteers to bear fruit and that they will see children coming to Christ and deciding to follow Him. May they continue to be faithful so that You may entrust them with more of the bigger things and help them reach out to more children. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How to Pray for Children’s Ministry

Praying for the children’s ministry is also like praying for the children to be brought to Christ, for that is the very purpose of the ministry, for them to become godly men and women whose lives are given to Christ. That is also one of the things in God’s heart. In Joel 2:28, it is written that God shall pour out His spirit to all flesh, and sons and daughters shall prophesy, young men shall see visions, and old men shall dream dreams. That is only possible if they are discipled in Christ.
