A Christian Prayer for Pregnancy

01Pregnancy is a beautiful journey for every couple trying to conceive. Every child is a gift from God, and He is the author of each baby’s life, crafting fearfully and wonderfully inside the womb of every mother-to-be. As you are here searching for an effective prayer for pregnancy, know that it is the LORD who seals up and opens a woman’s womb. His ways, timings, and thoughts are absolute and perfect, beyond human reach and grasp. In matters of death and life, all we can do is trust and believe in the goodness of God at all times. Here is a simple prayer for pregnancy that you can pray as you and your spouse journey to conceive a child:

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of life. I praise You and magnify You for fearfully and wonderfully crafting babies in mothers’ wombs. As I desire to conceive a child this year, I trust in Your perfect plan and timeline for my life, and I surrender this desire into Your hands, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of life. I praise You and magnify You for fearfully and wonderfully crafting babies in mothers’ wombs.

Another way to pray for pregnancy is by praying the Scripture, which is God’s perfect will. We know that God is always faithful to keep His word because it is His will for mankind. Here is an example of praying the Scripture based on Psalm 130:5, Hebrews 11:11-12, and Genesis 30:22:

Heavenly Father, as my soul waits for You to conceive a child, I will continue to hope in Your Word of promise. I know that You are faithful in keeping Your promises and Your Word. You always remember me, and You will open up my womb in Your perfect time. I put my trust in You, and I praise You for all Your goodness in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of life. I praise You and magnify You for fearfully and wonderfully crafting babies in mothers’ wombs.

A Christian Prayer for Pregnancy

Pregnancy is like faith and work combined to achieve the desired result. If you have faith to be pregnant, you don’t simply pray to God, but you also do what needs to be done. As we know, babies don’t just appear; every conception requires effort, self-discipline, and sacrifice in hopes of making a baby. Nevertheless, God is the One who gives life according to His timetable.

What does the Bible say about trying to conceive?

Fertility and infertility are among the most powerful subjects found in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testament. In the stories in the Bible, fertility was seen as a gift from God because it allowed the family lineage to continue, while infertility was viewed as a curse in a family. Regardless, God moved through women’s wombs, both young and old, bypassing the laws of human nature regarding conception.

In the story of Jacob, God moved through Jacob’s wives Leah and Rachel for their conception. God saw that Leah was unloved, so He opened her womb and allowed her to conceive ten children, whereas Rachel, whom Jacob dearly loved, was barren for some time (see Genesis 29:31). In the latter part of the story, Rachel soon conceived Joseph, and then Benjamin.

Also, among the famous miraculous conception stories in the Bible was the story of Abraham and Sarah. The couple was very old and beyond the natural age for fertility and conception. However, God moved through the womb of Sarah, and she conceived Isaac (see Genesis 21). The same thing happened to Zechariah and Elizabeth, who both were old, yet conceived John the Baptist.

Stories of conception in the Bible simply show that God is the one who decides when to give a couple a child. If you are praying to God for conceiving a baby, don’t lose hope or give up praying. Keep making love to your dearly beloved spouse, and in God’s perfect time, He will give you that which you desire.

Can prayer help you get pregnant?

A prayer itself doesn’t make you pregnant, but God does. Your chances of conception are not based on how many times you pray a day or what kind of prayers you say, but it’s all because of the One you are praying to, the living God in Christ Jesus, who gives life and gives children as gifts. He knows what you are desiring, and He knows how much you’ve been trying and desiring to have a baby. God is your hope for pregnancy.

In the Bible, Hannah was a barren wife of Elkanah, and many times she cried about the LORD not giving her children; this was worsened by Peninnah, the other wife, who taunted Hannah and had children. One time, as she prayed to the LORD, making a vow of dedicating the child to the LORD, she conceived a baby boy, who became Samuel the Prophet (see 1 Samuel 1). Manoah’s wife, who was unnamed in the Bible, the mother of Samson, was also barren until an angel of the LORD appeared to her and told her she would have a son, and thus Samson was conceived (see Judges 13:2). In the case of Rebekah, Isaac’s wife, she was also childless, so Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of her wife, and she became pregnant (see Genesis 25:21).

When it comes to human life and death, God’s ways and thoughts are beyond our capacity to grasp and fathom. He alone is sovereign in things such as pregnancy and conception. Regardless of the outcome, we know that God is faithful to keep His Word and that all of His plans are good and for our good.
