An Addict’s Prayer

Addiction, sadly, is one of the things that many of us go through. But addiction is not just about drugs; there are many forms addiction can take. You can be addicted to social media, porn, video games, alcohol, or something else. However, in this particular article, we focus on people who are suffering from drug addiction. But still, the things that are written here can be applied to any form of addiction.

Addiction is when someone has a strong need or dependence on something. One example of it is drugs. It could also be a strong need to engage in something such as sex. Social media could also be a form of addiction if you always depend on receiving likes and messages to make you feel good. People who are addicted are dependent on what they are addicted to, and they can’t live without them. Take away those things, and they will feel as if their world will crumble. They will crave this thing, but we know that the Bible has something to say on that matter.

How can God help me with my addiction?

The ultimate help an addict can find is Jesus. While addiction is real, that does not mean that a person is forever enslaved to that particular object or activity—everything changes when an addict becomes a Christian. Because of Who Jesus is and His work on the cross, the bondage of sin has already been broken. That includes the bondage of drugs, sex, porn, video games, social media, and all else. When an addict becomes a genuine Christian, they have a new heart; they are now born again. The old is gone, and the new has come. Also, they are not a slave to sin anymore, but a slave to righteousness. They do not walk in the flesh anymore, always succumbing to the desires of the flesh. But they now walk in the Spirit.

In some cases, addiction may need professional intervention and takes time to recover from or get rid of fully. But in the end, an addict is set free from their addiction.

Romans 8:9

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Romans 13:14

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

It is important to humble yourself and acknowledge that you will need divine help to battle addiction. Here is a prayer guide you can pray:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to set me free from sin. I pray that You would give me the grace to be humble and cry out for help to Christ, believing His work on the cross and repenting from the life of sin. Help me primarily rely on Christ as I deal with my addiction because I am nothing without Your grace and mercy. I thank You, Lord Jesus, because you set the captives free. In Your name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to set me free from sin

An Addict’s Prayer

What is a good prayer for addiction?

Christ came so that we may have life and that we may have it abundantly. Whatever it is that addicts seem to get from the things or activities they are addicted to, it will never satisfy them in the end. Only Christ can satisfy them. In Christ, they will find pleasure that they can’t get anywhere else. They are made whole and restored in Christ. It is important to remember that it is possible for a person addicted to substances or alcohol to become someone who can say no to them. That is possible by the grace of God. (John 10:10)

As you battle addiction, you can use this prayer to remind yourself of how Christ’s work transforms you:

Father, I thank You, for you have set me free from addiction in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. I thank You, Jesus, because Who You are and what You have done for me on the cross has set me free from the bondage of sin and the bondage of (what you were addicted to). I am not a slave to (what you were addicted to), but I am a slave to righteousness in Christ. Only Christ can satisfy me and make me whole. In Christ, I am loved and restored. May my life be a testimony to other people suffering from addiction that Christ sets the captive free. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to set me free from sin

An Addict’s Prayer

Even Christians who were newly converted may struggle with addiction. It is not something that disappears immediately. It is not about instant perfection but the direction of our life. Our life should not be the same as before, but rather moving toward the direction of holiness. We know that we can be victorious over it in the end.
