An Adult Prayer

They say that no matter how tough high school or college was, it does not compare to the real world as one becomes an adult. Many agree that adulting is not easy. You get to have more responsibilities, problems to solve, and goals that you have to work diligently to accomplish. Maturity is always associated with adulthood. True enough, most older adult people we know are more mature than we are. But to break the myth, being mature is not dependent on one’s age. Yes, there is this psychological age range of an adolescent and adult, but even a young person in his late teenage years can be as mature as a 28-year-old person. Likewise, you will find some older persons old enough to start a family but still childish in their ways. A 20-year-old man capable of taking responsibility and always exercising wisdom is more of an adult than a 30-year-old man who is still living in his parents’ house, asking for an allowance from them, and doing nothing but playing video games.

Ephesians 5:15

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Father, I thank You because I have the Holy Spirit in me

An Adult Prayer

What is a good prayer to say?

A good prayer is always something that comes from a posture of humility. Every prayer that we say before God is our being humble before Him. We thank God since all was because of Him and not us. We pray and ask God for something because He has the power to provide it, not us. We also cry out to God in times of distress because only He can rescue us, not ourselves. Praying for God’s will in each area of our lives is still an act of humility. For example, we pray for God’s will in our work; for us to always be honest because we want to obey God. We obey God because we humble ourselves before Him by His grace. That is why sin is a byproduct of rebellion against God and the opposite of humility, which is pride.

Zechariah 4:6

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Father, I thank You because I have the Holy Spirit in me

An Adult Prayer

Here is a prayer you can pray that shows humility before God as you witness Christ to the world:

Father, I thank You because I have the Holy Spirit in me, Who empowers me to be Your witness and convicts me of sin. I grow to become more like Your Son Jesus only because of the work of the Holy Spirit in me. Help me, Holy Spirit, to always reflect Jesus toward others. Give me the grace to be patient and gracious to people who give me a hard time at work. Give me boldness and courage in my workplace to preach Christ to those who haven’t heard of His work and Who He is. Always remind me to do everything not by my strength but by Your power and Spirit. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What is an example of prayer?

When it comes to adulting, you can and should pray for many areas of life. Adulting is hard. That is why, as a Christian, you should always humble yourself, always depend on God, and never rely on your might or strength as you face the stage of adulthood.

The following are different areas you can pray for and examples of prayer for each of them:

Job application

It is God’s design for us to work, especially the men. Idleness is never from God but from the enemy. If you read the book of Proverbs, it says a lot of things about diligence and laziness. While most Christians are diligent in working, finding a job can be an obstacle, especially when competition is high.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Proverbs 12:27

The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

Father, I pray that you will open doors and opportunities to apply for a job. And as I apply, I pray that you will give me favor in the eyes of my prospective employer. I also pray that the job I end up with would compensate me well and treat me kindly. If a certain application is rejected, remind me to persevere and never give up, for You have prepared a job for me in which I shall be the salt and light there. Give me the wisdom I need as I discern and choose the positions and companies that I apply for; that at the end of the day, I am honoring You and glorifying You with the job that I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Love life

Perhaps, of all areas of being an adult, this is only one of the few people are excited about. Dating someone and getting married is not a simple thing. It requires prayer, discernment, wisdom from fellow believers, and preparation. (2 Corinthians 6:14)

Father, I pray that even if I am still in the season of singlehood, I will maximize this time and enjoy the season of waiting. I also pray that as I choose someone to date who will be my future spouse, he/she is a genuine follower of Christ. I pray that I will never compromise my standards when choosing a spouse. Give me the humility to listen to the counsel of others and help to prepare myself as I enter the season of dating someone, which shall eventually lead to marriage. Give me the graces I need, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Walking with Jesus

Having a job and dating may be part of adult life, but life is not about those things at all. Life is about Christ. There is nothing more important than praying for your relationship with God and growing more in holiness when it comes to being an adult.

Colossians 1:10

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Father, I thank You because I have the Holy Spirit in me

Titus 2:12-13

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Father, give me the graces that I need to grow all the more as a Christian. I pray that I will grow more in Christlikeness. Empower me, Holy Spirit, to live a holy and upright life. May I always walk in obedience and the fear of the LORD and do the things You have commanded. I pray that I shall always be diligent with repentance and that the fruit of the Spirit will be more evident in my life as I grow more like Your Son Jesus. Remind me always, Father, that my end goal in everything is to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father, I thank You because I have the Holy Spirit in me
