How to Pray When Life Falls Apart

When your life is falling apart, the most important thing you must do is run to the Father and seek His comfort and His Word. There’s no safer or better place during these moments of your life than to be in the presence of God. Only He can lift every burden and make way for the things that seem to have no way; only His Word can bring faith, hope, and power to your situation. The enemy can use situations to deceive people into thinking that the current events will last forever. However, God’s Word says there is always a season for everything (see Ecclesiastes 3). It is important to incline your ears, emotions, and thoughts toward God and His Word alone so that you won’t be swayed by your feelings, the lies of the enemy, and what is visible to your eyes.

How then do you pray to God when life is falling apart? The best way to pray when you are in this situation is to read a Scripture promise of God and declare it as a prayer. God’s Word empowers your faith like no other, and when you have faith in God’s Word, heaven accomplishes what has been decreed and declared through the Word of God. For instance, as your life seem to be falling apart and you feel scared about the future and the changes that are coming into your life, remember that the Lord said in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. God promised that your future is taken care of no matter what your current situation is. So, you can pray in this manner:

Heavenly Father, thank You, for my future is safe and secure in Your hands. Even though I may not understand what is happening now with my life, I can trust in Your Word. You don’t plan to harm me but to give me hope and a future. I surrender my life to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The enemy takes advantage of this kind of situation in people’s lives, and that is why it is important to run to the truths of God, think about them day and night, and believe only in His Word. There are many promises of God in the Bible that can really help you in your struggles. As you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in this difficult season of your life, you can be confident that He Who began the good work in you will complete it until the day Christ Jesus returns (see Philippians 1:6).

How do you keep it together when life is falling apart?

When life is falling apart, only God and His Word can keep you together as you allow yourself to yield even more to His presence. Sometimes, it is also important to be surrounded by supportive and godly friends who can encourage you, uplift you, and strengthen your faith during these times. But the choice is yours alone to be able to make it through or not. It is important that you must always choose to believe in God’s faithfulness and goodness to pull you through the situation and keep His promises close to your heart; that will serve as your hope and light to your dark path.

The greatest attack the enemy can make during this time is to lie to you about your life and the future; that causes you to lose hope, doubt yourself and God’s Word, and turn toward temporal happiness and peace. Don’t ever buy his temptations. Stay strong in the Lord and firm in your footing. Know that nothing is constant in this world but the presence and the Word of God alone. This too shall pass, and the Holy Spirit is holding you close right at this moment of your life. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Take a look at the story of Job. He lost everything but it was only for a short while. It was a painful journey in his life, and he lost everything, from his possessions down to the people close to his heart—his family. But he remained faithful to God, and, in the end, the Lord restored to Job twice as much as he had before.

And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10

It can be tempting to ease our pain by running toward temporal things that give short-term peace and happiness. But right after you stop doing those things, the pain is still there; the anxieties and fears are still there. Don’t allow your inner man to weaken by choosing to do worldly things to forget about the pain of the situation. Instead, when you face your situation courageously with God, holding tightly to your faith in Him, you will come out strong and renewed just like Job. You will overcome. Jesus said These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33).

How can I have joy in the Lord when my world is falling apart?

The Bible says that it is God’s will for us to rejoice in all circumstances. To find joy in times of difficulty can be challenging, but the antidote to sorrow, pain, discomfort, negativity, and fear is a thankful heart. When you are thankful to God at all times, it can be easy to find joy even in the smallest blessings. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. When you do God’s will, even just by being thankful, it can stir up joy within you. After all, joy does not come from you but from the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who produces the fruit of joy in your heart when you do God’s will, seek Him with all your heart, and put Him first in your life.

You can ask God to give you the eyes to see the smallest of blessings in your situation that you can be thankful for. God will show you His perspective of things that brings surpassing peace to the soul and mind. Moreover, Philippians 4:6-7 is a great reminder that when we are anxious about the future and the situations in our lives, all we have to do is to pray and give thanks. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I pray that God holds your mind and heart as you go through the challenges in your life. May the Holy Spirit empower you and give you the strength and peace that crushes Satan under your feet. Remember that you have the victory of Christ Jesus, no matter what. You are more than a conqueror because of Jesus. Amen.
