A Birthday Prayer for My Godson

It is a gift and a blessing from God to be a godparent of someone else’s child. You become a second parent to them, helping in your way and guiding a godson or goddaughter in wisdom in the case of the absence or at the request of the parents.

You can say many things to your godson on his birthday. It is an opportunity to affirm his value and encourage him in his identity in Christ. You can speak life, hope, and faith in his spirit. Here are some of the things that you can say to your godson on his birthday:

1. You can tell him how proud you are of him and who he is becoming.
2. You can read him a wonderful scripture passage about hope for his future.
3. You can tell him that he is special and that his life is a blessing to everyone.
4. You can be thankful for him or appreciate his being born.
5. You can share the love of God for him and remind him of his worth and value alone in Christ.
6. You can tell him that you are always there for him whenever he needs help or a friend to talk to.
7. You can get to know him better, if you haven’t done so, by asking what he likes and dislikes or simply by having a catch-up conversation with him.
