A Christian Wedding Prayer

If you’re about to have your wedding or someone from church is getting married, we can’t help but pray to God for the wedding. We pray to God because we want to thank Him for making such a joyous and wonderful day possible. At the same time, we can only count on Him for a good wedding, like having nice weather and no serious problems in the ceremony. You can pray to God for many things at a wedding. One good prayer you can pray to God at first is thanking Him.

Here is one of the example of a Christian wedding prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride]. I thank You because You made this wedding possible from the moment they started dating up until this day, where they become husband and wife. I also thank You God for the provision You have given them for this wedding. I pray that we will get to see even more of Your glory and how magnificent the orchestration of Your hands is on this wedding day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride].

(If you are the one getting married, you can modify the prayer to the first person)

What is a good prayer to say at a wedding?

The prayer mentioned above about giving thanks to God for the wedding is one of the best prayers you can offer to God. A wedding is a moment of celebrating the union of a man and a woman. Giving thanks to God in prayer is the fitting thing to do. However, there are also other things that you can pray for at a wedding. For example, you can pray that there will be good weather during the ceremony.

Here is a prayer that you can pray for the weather:

Heavenly Father, I pray for good weather during the duration of the wedding ceremony until the reception. I pray that no heavy rain nor thunderstorm will suddenly occur. I also pray for lovely rays of sunshine. (You may add this part if the venue is open) I pray that no rain shall come, since the wedding venue is an outside location. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride].

You can also pray for the ceremony itself to go smoothly and that there will be no serious problems. Here is one of the ways to pray for that:

Heavenly Father, I pray that everything will go smoothly from before the wedding until it ends. I pray that there shall be no transportation problems, especially for the bride and groom as they come to the wedding venue. I also pray, Father, that You give grace and wisdom to whoever is in charge of anything in the wedding whenever they face unforeseen problems. In the end, remind us that a wedding is not about a program, but about a man and a woman coming into a marriage covenant. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride].

Another good prayer that you can offer is for God to be glorified in the wedding ceremony. You want the wedding itself to be a testimony and a good example to those who are not yet married. Here is an example of how you can pray for God’s glory and for the wedding to be a great testimony to others in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I pray that You will be glorified in this wedding ceremony where a man and a woman chose to join in a marriage covenant together with Your Son Jesus. I also pray that this wedding shall be a good example for those who are not yet married to preserve themselves for their future spouse. I pray that it will encourage them not to seek temporary relationships, but to seek relationships that end in marriage. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride].

What is a good Bible verse for newlyweds?

There are many Bible verses that you can use to encourage and remind newlywed couples. One example is from Matthew 19:6, where it is written:

Matthew 19:6

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

In the wedding ceremony, it is surely preached that they become not two people but one when they get married. Another Bible verse that you can also encourage them with is from Genesis 2:18:

Genesis 2:18

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

This one reminds the couple that both may be different, but they complement each other. The woman is not necessarily less than a man, but she is a great “helper” (complement) to the man. You can also use Ephesians 5:22-24 for the bride and Ephesians 5:25-27 for the groom, where it tells them how one should treat and love another.

Ephesians 5:22-24

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Ephesians 5:25-27

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Lastly, you can encourage them with a verse from Ecclesiastes 9:9. Married life may have its challenges, but it should be enjoyed, not dreaded.

Ecclesiastes 9:9

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

What do you pray for newlyweds?

There are so many things that you can pray for the couple as they face their newly married life. One of the things that you can pray for is that more than each other, they will get to enjoy God more. Here is one of the ways to pray for them to enjoy God more:

Heavenly Father, I pray that more than each other, [groom] and [bride] will also get to enjoy your presence in their lives. I pray that they will experience more of Your grace, mercy, and faithfulness in their lives from this point forward until their family grows and their children have a family of their own. I pray that they shall always set their eyes on You, regardless of what season their married life is in. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Another thing that you can pray for is for the newlywed couple to have the grace they need as they raise their future children. You can say this prayer as you pray for the couple as they raise their future children:

Heavenly Father, I pray that you will give [groom] and [bride] the grace they need to become godly parents who will raise and train their children in Your ways. I pray that they will raise children who know You, God. Raising children is not easy, but I pray that they will find joy in it as they become godly parents in Christ, knowing that they are raising them to know You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Lastly, pray that they shall always still minister and preach the Gospel as a couple. Here is how you can pray for them to preach the Gospel to others continually:

Heavenly Father, I pray that both [groom] and [bride] will continue to fulfill their mandate, which is to make disciples. I pray that as a couple, they will continue to become ministers of reconciliation and proclaim Christ to those who don’t yet know Him. I pray that they will use their strengths that complement each other as they witness Christ to the world as a couple. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for this wonderful day where we get to witness the union of [groom] and [bride].

A Christian Wedding Prayer

If you are the one who is getting married or if you just got married, you can pray the prayers mentioned above. Married life is not just about enjoying each other’s company, but also about honoring God and glorifying Him in everything you do as a couple.
