A Father’s Prayer For Adult Daughter

As a father, you love your daughter with an agape or sacrificial kind of love. That means you always seek the well-being of your daughter above your own. Loving and seeking her well-being obviously doesn’t stop when she goes to college or graduates. Even if she is already an adult or has her own family, as a father, you still love her and care about her well-being. Such is the love of a parent; it knows no end, no matter the age or season of life she may be in.

Heavenly Father, thank You because from the moment my daughter was born to her life as an adult, You have always been with her. In Christ, it is You who takes care of her well-being and looks after her. It is Your faithfulness that has sustained her. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Pray For Your Adult Daughter?

You should pray for your adult daughter because you can’t always be there for her and take care of her like God does. While the Bible commands us to pray, we pray to God regarding our adult daughters because we know that, in the end, He is the only One we can depend on regarding the well-being of our daughters. God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present. He can be with our adult daughter 24/7, wherever she goes, whereas we can’t. We pray for our adult daughter because we acknowledge in humility that it is only God whom we ultimately depend on for the well-being of our adult daughter.

That is why the Bible says in (Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7) that we are to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God and cast our cares and burdens to Him because He cares for us. If we humble ourselves and know that it is only God whom we can depend on regarding our daughter’s well-being, we will not take those concerns on ourselves but cast them to God in prayer, knowing that He cares for us. In (Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7), it is also written that we must lift our prayer requests to God so that His peace that transcends all understanding shall guard our hearts and minds.

Father in heaven, remind me to never try to handle my concerns for my adult daughter on my own but to always humble myself and come before You in prayer. I must cast those concerns I have to you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How Can We Pray For Our Adult Daughter?

You can pray for your adult daughter by lifting to God in prayer the concerns that you have regarding her well-being. Along with that, it would be good to establish what those concerns are. Is it her being able to find a job where the work environment is good and she will be treated fairly? Is it for her to be pursued not just by any man but a godly man who will pursue and love her, just as Christ loves the church? Is it for her to grow in the knowledge of God and in spiritual maturity? Whatever your concerns happen to be, you can lift those prayer requests to God.

Those prayer requests revolve around the season of being an adult and is therefore different if you are praying for teenage or younger daughters. In this kind of prayer, you are praying for more adult matters, such as work, marriage, family, finances, etc. However, there are matters that you should pray for your daughter regardless of her age. For example, Christlikeness and bearing fruit is something that we can always pray for.

Heavenly Father, I pray for my daughter who is now working, that You will give her the grace and strength that she needs in her job. Give her the wisdom to solve whatever problems arise at work. Give her refreshing rest and remind her to take breaks. As she is now open to dating, I pray that she will be wise regarding who she dates and that You will bring her a godly man who will die to himself daily and put her first. May she continue to grow in spiritual maturity and bear fruit in every good work. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If your adult daughter is not yet a Christian, then the most important prayer you can say for her is for her salvation. Pray that the Holy Spirit will work in her heart, turn her heart of stone into one of flesh, and ask for her spiritual eyes to be opened, so that she may see who Christ is, believe the Gospel, and repent. If your daughter is a believer, you can rest assured, regardless of what worries you have as a father, that God’s divine providence is always at work in her life. In Christ, she has a heavenly Father always watching out for her in the heavens.
