A Business Prayer for a Challenging Situation

Any business owner, executive, or entrepreneur can attest to how hard it is to run a business alone. You are not just there managing operations or selling your product/service, but you must also handle people and many other aspects of running a business. Then, other factors make a business even more complicated, like sudden economic changes that negatively affect all companies on a large scale. This article was written during the second year of the Covid-19 pandemic. If you remember the things that happened during the pandemic, it is a perfect example of a situation where businesses were in an extremely challenging problem.

No matter what circumstance your business is in that makes it challenging, here is one simple prayer you can pray:

Father in heaven, as I and my business go through an extremely challenging situation because of [circumstance], I pray that You would give me the wisdom to navigate through it. Give me the grace to continue being diligent. Help me be as hard-working as an ant and still never forget to depend on You, God. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What does God say about hard times?

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Whenever we are going through hard times, such as when business is not going well, we ought to make our prayers, supplications, and thanksgiving to God. No matter what storms we go through in life, even if it looks really bad, we still have the peace of God in us in Christ, and this peace guards our hearts and minds. When business is slack, we surely have concerns and anxieties, especially if it is the source of the family’s income. However, we should not keep those concerns to ourselves but cast them to God because He cares for us and our concerns. 

The Bible also tells us that all things work together for the good of those who love God. With God, a breakthrough can happen in your business. Through God’s infinite wisdom, going through hard times can also be used for your good. Whatever God allows, it is beneficial; not because God is a sadist, but because this sanctifies us to become more like Jesus. For example, if your business is bad, it drives you to trust God, live a life of being content in Christ, and have joy in Him.

Nonetheless, by all means, pray to God that your business will prosper and that God will use you and your business to expand His kingdom and help those who are in need. God is the source of everything, even wealth. But remember, what matters most are heavenly treasures rather than earthly ones. 

Even when life is hard, this life we have here on earth is temporary. We must constantly remind ourselves that we are exiles on this earth because our real home is heaven, in which we shall be when Christ comes again. 

How do you pray for a difficult situation?

You can pray to God over the difficulties you are going through in your business by using the Bible verses that we quoted above. There is no better way to pray than praying the Word of God itself.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are my Father to Whom I can run and can depend on in times of difficulties, even when it comes to my business. Father, I pray for a breakthrough for my business. I pray that more sales will come in and that my business will recover. Give me the wisdom I need to think of the best course of action to solve the problems in my business. I thank You because I can cast my anxieties and concerns onto You. After all, You care for me. Whatever I go through in my life, everything works together for my good, even the dire circumstances. Give me the grace to always trust and rely on You and never upon myself. I thank You because I am content in Christ no matter what difficulties I encounter. I still have joy; I can still praise and thank You in the morning. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Biblical way to run a business is to always do what is right in the eyes of God and always submit your business and the way you run it to the Lordship of Christ. That means that you ought to run your business with integrity and honesty. That also means that it should never result in dishonest and underhanded things just to save it if it’s struggling. Running a business should be rooted in the fear of the Lord. If we fear God, then we will always do what is right in His eyes.

Heavenly Father, give me the grace to always uphold honesty and integrity when running my business. Help me, Lord, never do anything dishonest to save my business or increase its profits. May I always walk in uprightness, righteousness, and the fear of You, even as I work at my business. Help me to always do what is honorable and right in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As you and your business go through tough times, you can think of the best solutions you can implement, but at the end of the day, only God can preserve your business. God is not your last resort. When we encounter difficulties in our business, our first response should be to come to God in prayer. God is the source of everything, whether it is wisdom, wealth, or opportunities.
