A Boy Scout Prayer

There are several countries, cities, and places where one or more boy scout associations or organizations are present. In the United States, one of the best known boy scout organizations  is the Boy Scouts of America. Being a boy scout means going through an educational or training program for young boys or young men (depending on the age range) where you will be trained in leadership, service, preparedness, character development, and more. But what makes a boy scout is not the training itself, but what they become as a result of their training. It is also important to note that such a program is not only available for boys, but also for girls.

Being a boy scout means being involved in many different activities. One of the most famous activities associated with the word boy scout is “camping”. It is while camping that boy scouts learn and apply the skills they learn to survive and to always be prepared. One of the famous skills that boy scouts are known for learning is how to tie a rope with different kinds of knots. There are also other activities, like community events where they get to serve others. Nonetheless, whatever activity boy scouts undertake, safety and protection are some things a boy scout could pray for.

If you are going camping, here is one prayer you can pray as you camp:

Heavenly Father, I pray that you will keep my fellow scouts and I safe from any harm and danger. Protect us from any accidents or any wild animals that may have been left undetected. Give me the grace to always be alert and aware of my surroundings. Let no evil befall any of us, Father. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What is the Boy Scouts’ duty to God?

The boy scouts’ primary duty is to love God and glorify Him, and by God, we mean the God of the Bible. The only one true God. Some boy scout organizations have Christian roots, and some don’t, but instead encourage belief in a supreme being. Regardless of the organization’s spiritual beliefs, a boy scout’s relationship with God is a personal one. Either you have it, or you don’t. You have a relationship with God because you encountered Christ, not because an organization influenced you. Everything you do that you claim to do for God should really be for God, not because of the influence of the boy scout organization. Jesus Himself said that the two greatest commandments are: to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors. 

Matthew 22:37

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Father, I thank You for loving me first. Give me the grace to always love above everything else with all of my heart, soul, and mind. Let everything I do be for You and be motivated by my love for You. Thank You, Father, because I am not deserving of Your love, yet you still loved me in Christ. Let my love for you be translated to my love for others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What are the duties of an individual to God?

Our duties as Christians or children of God are our primary duties as boy scouts. If our duty as Christians is to love God, then as boy scouts, we ought to love God as well. That also means that we serve and love others as boy scouts because it is our primary duty as Christians. In other words, our duties as Christians influence our duties as boy scouts. Another duty that we have is to glorify God. The Bible says that in everything that we do, we ought to glorify God in them. 

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

This is also why being a boy scout is a great avenue to be God’s instrument and the salt and light to the world. Our duties are what God has commanded us to do, like making disciples. Many boy scouts’ activities involve serving the community, which is a good opportunity to witness Christ for them and preach the Gospel, our ultimate goal.

Matthew 5:13-16

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

As a boy scout, here is one prayer you can pray as you go out and serve the community:

Heavenly Father, as I serve the community through our activities, remind me that the ultimate reason I am doing this is for You and Your kingdom. May You be glorified in everything that I do. I also pray for You to give the grace to always have love as my motivation for doing these acts of service. Help me to always do these good works with a pure heart, and not with the intention of making myself look good for others to see. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What is a prayer used for?

You may be a boy scout who is wondering—Why pray? What is a prayer even used for? It’s important to know that prayer is an essential part of one’s walk with God. You cannot be in a relationship with Jesus and not pray. Prayer is essential because it is how we communicate with God. Prayer is an act of humility before God, acknowledging that it is all Him and all about Him. For example, if you are going to a forest to camp, even if the forest is probably a safe one, you should still pray for safety to God. You are communicating with God, and asking Him to protect you. Why? You can’t keep yourself perfectly safe on your own, even if you take all the precautions needed. Only God, with His divine power, can perfectly keep you safe. Likewise, when you are volunteering in community events, you want to pray for the people you are reaching out to, so they may get to know Jesus. In fact, you can directly pray for them.

Here is one of the ways you can pray for a person you are helping out at a community event:

Father in heaven, I pray for [name of the person], I pray that You open their eyes so that they may see the truth of the Gospel, that You died for the penalty of their sins so that they may be righteous in Your eyes and be freed from a life of sin. I pray that they will get to know You more, Lord Jesus. I pray that You also provide for the needs of [name of the person]. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Matthew 20:28

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

As a boy scout, there are many things you can pray for, depending on what your activities are. One of the things you can always pray for as a boy scout is that God will always use you as a channel of blessing to other people, and that you will be faithful to serve Him. Things may get tough, and your character may be tested, but even in those times of challenges, God can transform you to become more like Jesus, which is our goal in life. Remember that it is not about you, but all about God.
