A Prayer For A Musician

The music industry is known to be where ungodliness reigns, at least in the present age. When you listen to modern songs, some of the common themes you might find include violence, sex, drugs, and other vices. However, not all musicians in the music industry are unbelievers. Professional singers and musicians who are Christians work in different sectors of the music industry and are living their lives as the salt and light wherever God has placed them in the music industry.

Heavenly Father, I pray for boldness for Christian musicians in the music industry so that they won’t blindly go along with the culture of that world. Rather, may they be counter-cultural and be the salt and light where they are in the music industry by preaching Christ to the lost. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What can you pray for a musician?

There are two areas of a musician’s life that you can pray for. The first is the spiritual aspect. From this area, there are multiple subsections for which you can pray. One example is that the musician shall not hide their light under the basket, as Jesus said in (Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Matthew 5:15), but to let their light shine out. That means being the salt and light for the music industry by preserving that which is good and pointing people toward the light of the world, which is Christ, as written in Matthew 5:13-16.

Another element or spiritual aspect of a Christian musician’s life that you can pray for is their character. In Ephesians 5:8-17, the apostle tells the Ephesian church that before, they were walking in darkness, but this time, they are to walk as children of light because God has already brought them to light in Christ. Also, Ephesians 4:17-32 states that we should no longer walk like the Gentiles. In Christ, there is forgiveness, grace, and eternal life, and through Him, we can live free from the bondage of sin, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit, in which we grow and live in godliness.

That is a very important thing to pray for a musician, as a Christian musician may do all their good works and be the salt in the music industry, and preach the Gospel to the people there, but all of those things should be backed up by the way they live their life. Their life and character are the first Bible that unbelievers will look at. Also, do not forget that as they pursue their careers as musicians, the reason they do what they do is to glorify God, as written in (Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31).

For the second area of their life, you can pray for specific things about the musicians’ career. You can pray for creativity and wisdom to be upon them when they write their songs. You must always pray for these things in their life. For example, when you pray for creativity and wisdom upon them as they write their songs, you must also pray that they will be able to come up with counter-cultural songs or songs that point listeners toward Christ, whether in an obvious or subtle manner. You can also pray for grace upon them to grow their technical skills as musicians.

You can also pray for provision since they likely have needs like instruments, specific equipment, and even training to help them improve. If they are just starting out in their profession, then provision is something you can pray for, especially since those who are still starting tend to have lower incomes compared to those who are veterans in the industry.

Open doors are another thing you can pray for, that the musicians will get a break and come to be known for their proficiency, talent, and music, and hopefully use their platform to expand God’s kingdom and proclaim Christ to the world.

How can I pray for a musician?

As mentioned, you can pray for the spiritual area of their lives and careers. What are the concerns you have regarding musicians? Is it their boldness for Christ within the music industry? Then, by all means, pray for the Holy Spirit to empower them to be bold. Has the musician not had many gigs or open doors lately? Then pray for opportunities for them to arise!

Whatever your concerns or cares are about the musician, those are your prayer requests that you can lift up to God. As we present those prayer requests to God, His peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds, as written in Philippians 4:6-7. Also, in (I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1 Timothy 2:1), it is written that prayers, petitions, intercessions, supplications, and thanksgiving must be made for all people. That is why we pray for the musicians that we know. We should also say prayers of thanksgiving to God because, in good times or bad times, there are always things in a musician’s life that we should thank God for, as written in (In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.1 Thessalonians 5:18).

 

Heavenly Father, I pray for my friend, who is a Christian musician and is pursuing his career in the music industry. I pray that You will bless the work of his hands and mind and that the songs he writes shall be songs that impact many listeners. Use the songs he writes as Your means of blessing and caring for whoever listens to them. May he always desire to be the salt and light through writing songs and have more opportunities and platforms to share his songs with people. More than his songs, may the people see godliness in his character as he proclaims Christ to the lost. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If the musician you know is not a Christian, the most important prayer you can pray for them is to know Christ. It may be praying that someone will preach the Gospel to them or that, one way or another, they will hear the Gospel. Pray also that the Holy Spirit shall open their spiritual eyes and soften their hearts so that they may believe the Gospel and repent.
