A Prayer for the Girl You Love

If you are a man and are in love with a girl, whether she is someone you are praying for, pursuing, or dating, you will indeed always want to include her in your prayers. You pray for her simply because you love her. One way to express your love for her or put your love into action is by praying for her constantly. In your prayers, you pray for and seek her well-being.

Father in heaven, give me the grace always to include the girl I love in prayer, remember her in my prayers, and pray for her burdens and well-being as if they were mine. I thank You because I know that You hear my prayers and that they have power. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Should You Pray for the Girl You Love?

You should pray for the girl that you love because this is primarily how you put your love for her into action. While we are indeed commanded by God in (I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;1 Timothy 2:1) to make supplication, prayer, intercession, and thanksgiving for all people, God also commands us to love others, as written in (A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.John 13:34).

However, your love for your girl is not just any kind of love we all have for others—it is a romantic kind of love. While indeed it is romantic, the love that the Bible commands you to have for her is an “agape” kind of love. It means sacrificial and selfless love, where one selflessly seeks the well-being of the other. A good example of this is found in Ephesians 5:25 when Paul commands husbands to love their wives with an agape, sacrificial kind of love, just as Christ loved the Church.

While the verses we gave are all in the context of husband and wife, advising husbands to love their wives with an agape kind of love, the truth we can get from it applies to any man who loves a girl or woman. Even if he and the girl/woman are not yet married, he ought to love the girl/woman already with a sacrificial love. As a man loves a girl/woman with sacrificial and selfless love, he always puts it into action by praying for her as he seeks her well-being. Christ is our greatest example. He sought our ultimate well-being when He died for us on the cross so that we may find forgiveness and eternal life in Him. He sacrificially sought our well-being. He was willing to give His life even when He didn’t have to.

Apart from God’s command for us to pray and to lift our prayer requests to Him as written in Philippians 4:6-7, God is the only One we can ultimately depend on. Though you do everything to love the girl/woman to the best of your ability, you are still limited. You cannot be there for her 24/7, and your capabilities themselves are often inadequate. However, God isn’t limited; so while you do everything that you can do to love her to the very best of your abilities, you don’t hinge everything upon what you can do. Instead, you ultimately depend on God. After all, it is God Who ultimately looks after her. God works all things for her good, as written in ( And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28).

In 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we are to humble ourselves and cast our cares upon God, Who cares for us. Whatever cares or concerns you have regarding the well-being of the girl/woman you love, God also cares about them. Therefore, you should not handle everything alone but rather be humble and acknowledge that you need God and pray to Him your concerns regarding the well-being of the girl/woman you love.

Heavenly Father, as I do my very best to love [name] to the best of my abilities, remind me that I am limited. However, You are all-powerful, all-knowing, supreme, and sovereign. Therefore, I shall trust You and run to You as I seek the well-being of the girl/woman I love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How Can You Pray for the Girl You Love?

You can pray for the girl/woman you love in two ways. The first one is by praying for the things she would need for her well-being. That involves spiritual, physical, and emotional resources. Just as we constantly pray for provision because we always need it, we also pray for those things that the girl/woman we love will constantly need.

For the spiritual aspect, it could be the grace and mercy she needs to face the day (especially if she is going through tough times). It could also be for her to continually grow in the knowledge of Who God is and understand more of the mercy of God in Christ, which could spur her to be more zealous for God. You can also pray for constant growth in sanctification—to always walk in godliness, cultivate the mind of Christ through the Word, and be conformed every day in the image of Christ.

As for the physical things, you could pray for her safety as she goes to work every day, provision for her daily or monthly expenses, and everything she would need in her life here on earth. For the mental and emotional things, the prayers could overlap with the spiritual things you pray for. For example, if she is going through hardships, you pray for strength, grace, and mercy, which are both spiritual and emotional.

The second way you can pray for the girl/woman you love is by praying and lifting to God whatever concerns you have regarding her well-being. Is she having some tough times at work at the moment? Then, by all means, pray to God that He would give her strength and wisdom. Is she going through some emotional pain? Pray to God and seek her well-being by asking God to comfort her and bring her peace. Whatever your concerns as you seek her well-being, you can present them to God in prayer, as written in Philippians 4:6-7.

Heavenly Father, I pray for the girl/woman I love so that You would keep her safe from any harm and danger. I pray for her health and the provision she needs for her monthly expenses. May she grow more in knowing Who You are and see more of the depth of the love, grace, and mercy that You have shown her in Christ. Cause the work of her hands in the ministry to be fruitful and give her the strength to persevere. As she currently goes through tough times, give her the grace she needs. Refresh her, Father, and comfort her. Remind her that wherever she goes, surely Your goodness and mercy follow her. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Praying and seeking her well-being constantly in daily prayer could become tedious. However, because we love the girl/woman, we never feel such an effort is wearisome. Instead, we delight in doing it. While we love her to the very best of our abilities, it is only God Whom we can ultimately depend on regarding her well-being, and that is why we pray for her.
