A Prayer For When One Is Feeling Overwhelmed With Workload

There are times when we might feel overwhelmed by the workload we have at work. There are many reasons why this might be the case. It could be that you’re an accountant, and it is tax-filing season. Therefore, you and the accounting firm you work at will be very busy. You may own a small hotel, and it’s the holiday season, so you might be very busy trying to accommodate all the guests. Perhaps your work is just really involved, like working in law enforcement, where you have to protect citizens and catch criminals 24/7, or manage your company as its CEO. However, one thing is certain, God is our refuge in such times.

Father in heaven, whenever I am overwhelmed by what I am facing at work, I can always run to You, for You are my strong tower and refuge. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Biblical Truths Can You Meditate On When Feeling Overwhelmed With Workload?

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the heavy workload that you have, the scriptures give us several truths that can bring you comfort. These scriptures are what we can use as the basis for our prayers whenever we feel overwhelmed at work.

The first one is from Isaiah 40:28-29 (Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,  the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28-29). The prophet Isaiah asks a rhetorical question to Israel, reminding them of who God is. He asks:

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:28-29

Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

The prophet Isaiah reminds and shows the people of Israel who God is, and that is He is an everlasting God. The Creator of the ends of the earth does not faint or grow weary, and His understanding is unsearchable. That is how awesome and glorious our God truly is. Our God never faints or grows weary because He is everlasting. We all derive our strength from Him, but He does not derive His strength from anyone. He is the great I AM.

That is precisely why, in verse 29, we know that God could give us the strength we need whenever we feel overwhelmed with our workload. He can give us power whenever we are fainting and can increase our strength because He is the very source of that strength. That is why, in Romans 11:36, the apostle Paul writes that from God, through God, and to God are all things. God is the source of our strength, the means of our strength, and the end goal of why we are given the strength that we possess. (For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:36)

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:36

The next one is Philippians 4:13 (I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13). Perhaps this verse needs no introduction, as it is one of the most quoted verses among Christians. The context of the verse is obedience to God’s will, despite any trials and difficulties in life. The apostle Paul was in prison when he wrote the letter to the church in Philippi. Yet, that didn’t stop him from doing His ministry, saying He could do everything through Christ, who strengthened him.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13

Given the overwhelming workload, things may be hard at work, and it may become challenging to pursue excellence in your work continually. However, through Christ who strengthens you, not with your own strength, you can continue to do that which honors God and glorifies Him in the work that you do, even if it is overwhelming.

That also leads us to the third scripture that can encourage you whenever you feel overwhelmed at work, Hebrews 4:16 (Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16). It tells us that Christ is our confidence when we come before God’s throne of grace. Not anyone can just come before God’s presence because of sin. However, if we are in Christ, we are all justified in the eyes of the Father and made holy and righteous. It is not because of our own works but because of Christ’s righteousness. Therefore, we can approach God’s throne of grace freely and ask Him for grace and mercy in times of need.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Heavenly Father, I thank You because in Christ I get access to Your throne of grace, where I can ask You for the grace I need. Always remind me to do things not by my own strength but through Christ’s and that You are the source of all the strength I need. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How Do You Pray When Overwhelmed At Work?

You pray by asking God for the strength and grace you need as you tackle your overwhelming workload. Remind yourself that God is the source of your strength and that you do things through Christ, who strengthens you. Those are all in line with the scriptures that we mentioned above.

As you pray to God, approach Him from a place of humility and total dependence. You are overwhelmed at work and cannot handle it alone. Therefore, you must come before His throne of grace to ask Him for the strength and grace that you need, knowing that He is an everlasting God who does not grow weary, gives power to you, and increases your strength.

Heavenly Father, I come before You in humility, knowing that You are the only One I can run to in this season when I am overwhelmed with my workload. To You alone, whose strength does not faint or grow weary, do I come and ask for the strength, might, and grace I need at work. You are the One who increases my strength and gives me power whenever I faint. Through Your Son Christ alone, I can glorify You at work. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The main point of praying when we feel overwhelmed at work is to run to God and depend on Him for strength through Christ. Everything comes through Christ. However, we must be wise and exercise wisdom. It also is wise to talk to your supervisor or anyone you can at work regarding your workload and bring up your very valid concerns.
