A Prayer About The Seasons

Life has many different seasons. Our personal experiences show that, as does the Bible. There are times in life when we go through hardships, and there are times when we conquer them. We look back at what we went through as learning experiences. There are seasons where our focus is to study. Then there may be a season where our focus is to work and eventually have a family. One season does not remain for the rest of our life, just as it is never winter for an entire year. Our lives are composed of many different seasons.

Father in heaven, no matter what season I may be going through in life, times and seasons may change, but You never do. You are always faithful and just in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Does The Bible Say About Seasons?

The passage in the Bible that teaches us that life is about seasons is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. It starts with the first verse that for everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. That is true if you observe the course of history. When the Nazis started their campaign to conquer the world and uphold their evil ideologies, starting from annihilating what they perceived as inferior races, it was time for the world to stand up, take up arms, and fight a war. After that, it was a different season, one of peace. Over the course of history, some institutions had to be broken down, for they were already obsolete. There are times when people rejoice over events worth celebrating, and there are times when they mourn, like when disaster strikes.

That truth applies across the spectrum of life. Every matter under heaven is not just about seasons and times but also regarding our little lives, which are a part of history. Over the course of our lives, we will encounter different seasons and different times. We were born, and there will be a time when we die. Sometimes we laugh with friends, yet there are also times when we weep with them. Such is the course of life, with its different seasons and times, as written in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.

In that reality, there is a truth that we can count on, which will always be a source of comfort. The first one is in the succeeding verse of Ecclesiastes 3, in verse 11, which says that God made everything beautiful in its time. We can get two things from that passage (He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11). One is that God is sovereign over the times and seasons of life. He can make things beautiful in its perfect time because He is the One who is sovereign over everything. Just take a look at the life of Joseph, who was sold by his brothers to slavery. What was meant for evil, God worked out for good (But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Genesis 50:20). No course in human history surprises God or makes Him scratch His head. In His providence, He weaves everything like a beautiful tapestry, through which He makes and brings everything to pass beautifully in its time.

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

The second thing we can get from the verse is that since God makes everything beautiful in its time, we can wait upon the LORD. Perhaps there is something you are hoping or praying for, yet you know that it’s not yet the right time or season for it. One truth you can count on is that God makes everything beautiful in its time. Perhaps you are a student who dreams of starting a particular profession or a single person who longs to be married. Whatever that is, God has His perfect timing for those dreams to be realized.

How Can We Pray About Seasons?

When we pray about our life’s seasons and times, we can pray for all the things we hope for. For example, if you are a student studying to become an engineer, pray that you will finish your degree and become a competent engineer, which is the season you are excited about. If you are single, you can pray for God to prepare you for your intended partner and for God to bring you toward that season of marriage.

However, a more important thing you can pray for is a prayer of surrender to God. We can never control the seasons and times of our lives. However, our God does and is sovereign over it. Therefore, we must trust and surrender our lives to God, who knows and has great plans for us in line eternity (For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11). Psalm 112:7 shows us that a righteous man is not afraid of bad news, nor whatever uncertainty life brings, because his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11

Father in heaven, I pray that you will prepare me and bring me to the next season I hope for. More than that, whatever future seasons I may have in life, I surrender all of them to You. I know that You work all things for my good. I shall not be afraid, for my heart trusts in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

God, who holds our seasons and times, and works all things for our good, is someone we can trust. In Deuteronomy 32:1-4, it is written that His work is perfect. All of His ways are just. He is a faithful God, and just and upright is He (Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:1-4). That is the character of God, who holds and orchestrates all times and seasons in our lives. Because of that, we can trust and fully surrender our lives to Him.

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Deuteronomy 32:1-4)
