How To Pray For The Right Partner

It is always important to soak everything in prayer, especially when it comes to big decisions in life. This is because it is something that we cannot just decide spontaneously and casually, as big decisions also have significant implications for our lives. The same applies when it comes to choosing which men to pursue or which requests women should accept. It involves constant prayer, the application of wisdom from the Bible, receiving counsel from married people and taking steps to ensure that you do what is right in the eyes of God.

Heavenly Father, as I desire to marry, help me be patient and not impulsive. Guide my steps so that I may not slip, but always walk in Your paths of righteousness. Help me to pray constantly about this matter of my life and depend on You for guidance and direction. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How do we know what to pray for the right partner?

We pray for the right partner by first going to God’s Word. In Romans 12:2, it is written that we must not conform to the patterns of this world. Instead, we are to have our minds renewed so that we may be able to test and discern God’s will and determine what is good, acceptable, and perfect. The world has its own definition of the “right partner.” However, despite being in the world, we are not of this world. We subscribe and submit not to what the world says but to what the Word of God says. The Word of God is our highest authority regarding how we live our lives, including the identity of the “right” partner for us.

In (“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5), it is written that every Word of God is proven truth. It is tried and tested so that we can trust it. Also, the Scriptures, despite being written by men, are God-breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that all Scripture is God-breathed, which is why it is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, in which we may be complete and equipped for every good work. (Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. Psalm 1:1-2) also shows us how blessed those people are who walk not according to the counsel of the wicked but delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on it day and night.

Given the essence of the Word of God to the Christian, it is vital that we renew our minds with God’s Word by constantly reading it, meditating on it, pondering it, and applying it in our lives. The Word of God is God’s revelation to us. As we fill our minds with it and get renewed by it, we can cultivate the mind of Christ. Having cultivated the mind of Christ, we can discern what is good, acceptable, pleasing, and perfect to God.

An example of what the Bible says about choosing the right partner is (Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14), which says that we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what business do children of light have with darkness. Though the verse does not explicitly talk about marriage, it gives us a fair warning of the complications that could happen, as well as the risks involved, when we marry unbelievers. Therefore, as Christians, the right partner shares our faith.

How To Pray For The Right Partner

For men, the Bible tells us that the right partner is not just a woman of beauty but a woman of character. One who fears the LORD is prudent, kind, generous, caring, wise, and strong, as described in Proverbs 31. Likewise, for women, the right partner is a man who is first submitted to Christ so that they may love them, just as Christ loved the church, as written in Ephesians 5:25-33.

These principles we have mentioned are only some of the many that can be found in the Scriptures. It instructs us and gives us some idea of the right partner. Therefore, it is from the reading of the Bible that we can get to know what a suitable partner is, which also lets us know how and what to pray for our partner.

How do we ask God for the right partner?

You must first ask God for the right partner by praying according to the scriptures. Therefore, you should pray for a person who fears God, pursues godliness, is generous, kind, and caring, has wisdom, loves Christ, and is strong. Men should pray for a partner who has the qualities of a godly woman; women should pray for a man with the qualities of a godly man. As you pray to God for such a partner, you can also pray that He will lead you to that person. However, it is essential to note that as you pray for such things, it does not mean that the right partner will just arrive at your doorstep. You have to actively look for the right partner. That means pursuing a woman for men and being seen and involved in the church for women so that godly men can find them.

Heavenly Father, I pray that You will lead me to a woman who fears You and values godliness as compared to outward appearance. I pray that I will be able to meet a woman who is kind, caring, and generous, yet also strong and wise, and someone in whom my heart shall delight and trust. When I find such a woman, I pray that I will be able to be good friends with her and hopefully pursue her and marry her. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How To Pray For The Right Partner

Maybe you have already found the right partner in church. The problem is that there are several of them because you see several good candidates as your spouse. In that case, you are free to choose whomever you want to marry, so long as they are followers of Christ. Regarding that matter, you can pray to God for wisdom as you choose. While all of them are followers of Christ, there are other things that you should consider, such as what their values are, what God has called them to do, if either of those answers will be in conflict with yours, and many more. You can pray and ask God for wisdom, guidance, and clarity.

Father in heaven, between the several ideal partners I have found, I am hard-pressed to know whom I should choose. As I choose among them, guide me to the best choice I can make and give me clarity. Help me choose wisely, considering many other factors, such as their calling, values, and maturity. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How To Pray For The Right Partner

As you pray and choose the right partner, the key principle is to always get into the Word of God. While the Word of God is not like a flashlight, showing you whom you will end up with on the altar, it is the lamp to our feet and light to our path, as written in (Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.Psalm 119:105), in which we can move forward incrementally in faith. Choosing the right partner is indeed a life-changing decision. However, as you obey God’s Word and use it as your lamp, you can rest assured that God’s providential hand will always be there to protect and guide you.
