A Good Time To Pray

There may be times in life when we ask the question: “When is the best time for this?”. For example, if you are into trading stocks, you might ask, “When is the best time to buy or sell stocks?” If you are a working professional and are considering settling down and starting a family, you might also be asking the question, “When is a good time to find a wife?” However, when it comes to prayer, it doesn’t work like that, as every single moment is a good time to pray because prayer is what we always need.

Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the importance of prayer and why You want me to always pray to You and fight for my prayer life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

When Is A Good Time To Pray?

Any time we choose to pray is a good time to pray. We need to pray whether we are in times of need or distress or not. Any time is a good time to pray because we have an all-present God. In Psalm 139:7-10, David asks God a rhetorical question, asking where shall he go? Wherever he goes, God is there. That is one of the reasons why any time is a good time to pray. Whenever there is something we want to tell God, we know that He is with us, so we can talk to Him.

God is not like our parents, spouse, friends, or other people whom we know, where we must wait for a good time to talk to them. Just as we talk to those people because we have a relationship with them, we also talk to God because we are in a relationship with Him. We are His children, as written in (For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15). However, the difference is that God is always with us and has all the time in the world; therefore, any time is a good time to pray.

A Good Time To Pray

Now that we know we can pray anytime we want to God, in what specific circumstance (regardless of time) should we pray to Him? The answer to that is regardless of our current circumstance, we can and should pray to God anytime we need. Things in life do not have to be going well for you before you come to God and pray to Him. In fact, times of trouble mean that you should come before God’s throne of grace, as written in ( Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16), and ask Him for the grace and mercy that You need. Philippians 4:6-7 also tells us that we are to present our prayer requests to God, where His peace that transcends all understanding shall guard our hearts and minds. (Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7) also tells us that we are to humble ourselves and cast all our cares and burdens to God because He cares for us.

A Good Time To Pray

Of course, prayer is not about coming to God only because we are in need. Remember that prayer is a way for us to have intimacy and communion with God, not a means to get our wish list fulfilled. That is why, whether things in life are good or not, we should thank God in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). This verse does not force us to thank God when there is nothing to thank Him for because there is always something to thank God for. Even if things seem bad to us right now, there are a million things that God is doing for us in His providence. The fact that we are still alive and breathing is a big one!

Also, we pray out of worship to God. Prayer is our chance to adore, praise, worship, and ascribe to God the glory due His name, as written in Psalm 29. Prayer is not centered on us but centered on God. It is all about God. That is why, when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He began hallowing God’s name and praying for His will to be done.

In other words, anytime is a good time to pray, so we can and should always pray to God.

Why Do We Have To Always Pray?

We always have to pray because we are commanded by God to do so. The verses that we mentioned above tell us that we are commanded to do so. We also have to pray because, as mentioned above, prayer is about intimacy and communion with God. Rarely praying means having little intimacy and communion with God. Genuine Christians wouldn’t be passive about that but would instead always pursue intimacy. Intimacy with God is one of the greatest rewards any believer can have and enjoy in Christ.

We also always have to pray because it is how we receive grace from God. If we need grace to go through life and persevere, how can we have the strength and grace to do so if we don’t pray? It is a spiritual discipline that every believer should cultivate in order to have the habit of praying, whether things are going well in their lives or not.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ I am adopted as Your child, and I can enjoy this relationship with You. Once I was separated from You, but because of Christ, I have been brought near to You. May I always pursue intimacy with You and never take for granted the grace that I have received in Christ. Help me always fight for my prayer time and have those private moments with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

David is a good example of a person who knows that anytime is a good time to pray. If you go through the book of Psalms, much of which was written by him, you will see that he prays to God when things are going well in his life, when Saul is chasing him, his enemies after him, after he sinned against God, when he ponders upon God being a shepherd, going into battle, and many more. Regardless of the season, circumstances, and time in his life, David prayed to God, and you should do the same.
