A Prayer For A Peaceful Heart

A peaceful heart and mind cannot be compared to any gold, silver, great wealth, or riches this world can ever offer. You could say that having peace of mind and heart is a highly valuable treasure not everyone can have. After all, true peace comes from God alone, and without God, there is no true peace of mind and heart. Jesus Christ said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

As you are here looking for a prayer for a peaceful heart, know that Jesus Christ is the only way to have true peace of mind and heart. It is His gift to those who seek Him and those who trust Him with their lives. Here is a prayer for a peaceful heart:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life of Jesus Christ and for making Him known. I can live with a peaceful heart because of His presence and Word. May You be glorified in all things that I do as I obey Christ in Jesus’ name. Amen.

God promised that when we fix our eyes on Jesus, His Word, and heavenly things, we will have peace that surpasses knowledge and understanding. We don’t have to fear or worry about anything because the Word of God says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

As Christians, we can see how much this world truly needs to hear the Good News that Christ brings. Without God and His Word in our lives, having a peaceful heart would be a struggle. Check this article (How to Pray to Accept Jesus Christ) and lead someone to Christ as God leads you.

How to have a peaceful heart?

Saying a prayer for a peaceful heart helps you to be at ease when your thoughts and emotions are all over the place. After all, prayer is communicating to God and a run to Him for help when we need peace, clarity, and stillness. He is our refuge, strength, and Present Help in times of need (see Psalm 46:1).

That being said, there are other means to have a peaceful heart, as the Scriptures say. Here are some helpful ways for you to have a peaceful heart according to God’s Word:

1. Meditate on God’s Word daily

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Worldview is one of the main reasons why there’s so much inner turmoil in people’s lives. Most of the world’s perspectives, principles, and values are constantly at war with the Spirit and the Word of God. As Christians, renewing our minds daily with God’s Word is important since we are still living in the world and mingling with people of different faiths, cultures, and backgrounds every day. Romans 12:2 instructs believers not to be conformed to this world but to renew their minds by reading the Word of God so that we will not forget His true will for our lives as His children.

2. Fix your eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12:2

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2 reminds us that the Author and Finisher of our faith also went through a lot as He endured the cross, but He fixed His eyes on the joy that was set before Him—that is, our getting saved, redeemed, and restored to the Father. By fixing our eyes on Him even on the most difficult days, we can receive His peace and strength, knowing that the Author and Finisher of our Faith is victorious, and we are victors through Him as well.

3. Choose heavenly things over worldly things

Colossians 3:2

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

The more you set your affections, desires, and mind on heavenly things, the more peaceful your heart will be because only God and His Word can truly give you peace. Looking at this world will only cause heartaches and disappointments, and setting your affections on worldly things will only cause discontentment, greed, and covetousness. Worldly things will never give you true peace, and that is why we are instructed in Colossians 3:2 to set our affections on things above. The things that truly last – the love of God, His Word, and a relationship with Christ – are the ones that can truly give us peace of heart and mind.

4. Go with the hungry and passionate lovers of Christ

Proverbs 13:20

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Proverbs 13:20 and 1 Corinthians 15:33 show us how important it is to choose our circle wisely. If you want to have a peaceful heart and a peaceful life, choose friends who are passionate about Christ and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. These people will help you set your affections on heavenly things, help you grow closer to God, and walk toward the right path.

5. Be humble and teachable

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Humility is crucial in obtaining a peaceful heart in Christ Jesus, as 1 Peter 5:6-7 instructs us. Resisting God’s voice, questioning what He is instructing you to do, or refusing to obey His Word can open doors for the enemy to come in and steal, kill, and destroy your peace of mind and heart. But when we humble ourselves by being teachable to the Holy Spirit and submitting to God’s Word and His voice, then He will exalt you in due time, and you have His peace no matter the difficult road.

6. Trust in God and His faithfulness in His Word

Isaiah 26:3

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Isaiah 26:3 promises that God will keep us in His perfect peace when our mind is fixed upon Him. It shows we trust Him and rely on His Word. A challenging situation can sometimes cause doubt, confusion, worry, and fear, but choosing to fix your thoughts on God’s Word and believing in His faithfulness to protect, restore, and turn things into good will give you the perfect peace God promised.

As you partner with the Holy Spirit, He’ll reveal His Word to you and show you ways you can have a peaceful heart. As you continuously trust and rely on God with all your soul, heart, and mind, He will never fail you.

What Bible verses to pray for a peaceful heart?

As we have listed and discussed some of the things that you can do to have a peaceful heart, here are some helpful Bible verses along with prayers that you can pray and meditate on to have peace of mind and heart throughout the day:

1. Philippians 4:6-7

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7 makes a great prayer for a peaceful heart as it reminds you not to be anxious or worried about anything. Just pray it all out to God, not forgetting to thank Him, and you shall have His peace.

Heavenly Father, thank You, for I don’t have to worry about anything. You are always there for me, never leaving or forsaking me in all life situations. I have Your peace, which gives me clarity and stillness because I trust in You and Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2. Romans 8:15

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15 reminds us that we don’t ever have to fear anything because we are God’s children. We can always cry out to Abba Father for anything and be confident that He is always there to rescue and help us in times of need.

Abba Father, thank You for being my Present Help in times of trouble. I don’t have to fear tomorrow or life’s challenges because You are my biggest supporter. You are always there for me and will always rescue me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. John 16:33

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

The words of Jesus in John 16:33 reassures us that even though we may face trials and difficulties in this world, we can have peace knowing that He has already overcome this world.

Lord Jesus, thank You for overcoming the world and for being my biggest strength and inspiration. I have peace knowing that You have overcome the world, and You alone can relate to what I am going through. I don’t have to be afraid when I have You cheering me on in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. Isaiah 43:2

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

Whenever you feel like you are passing through a difficult season in life, remember that God promises in Isaiah 43:2 that nothing shall harm and overcome you for He is with you. This scripture makes a great prayer to give you peace despite your situation.

Heavenly Father, thank You for always being with me in all seasons of life. As I am going through an extremely rough season, thank You for blessing me with peace of mind and heart, knowing that nothing shall harm my family or me. Your presence is with me, and that alone gives me peace in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. Psalm 23:4

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Psalm 23:4 reminds us that even though there may be the presence of death and evil in this life, we don’t have to be afraid along the journey because God is always there to comfort us and protect us as a shepherd watches over His sheep. Such knowledge can give us peace transcending all understanding.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Protector in this life journey. Even though I may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I don’t have to fear evil because I have You. Thank You for this peace that rests in me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

6. Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Whenever you feel like you have messed up, remember God promised in Romans 8:28 that He is able to work all things together for good. God can make a beautiful message out of your messes and a powerful testimony for every trial and testing. You can rest your heart and be at peace knowing that God is able and sovereign in all things along the way, including the messes.

Heavenly Father, thank You that I can have peace knowing that You are able to work all things for good, even my messes. Thank You for Your patience, grace, and mercy that allow me to live with a fresh start each day in Jesus’ name. Amen.

As you read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will lead you to scriptures that can give peace to your heart. It is important to make time to study God’s Word daily so that your mind is filled with the promises and words of God that crush satan under your feet.

May God bless your heart with peace as you seek Him daily and trust in Him with all your life’s affairs in Jesus’ name.
