A Prayer Before Starting Your Day

How we start our day implies what we value the most and whom we rely on as the day begins. That is why, as believers, we must start our day with God because we are committing the work that we are about to do and the day that we are about to face towards God in whom we depend when it comes to everything (Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.). Also, we have to remember that we wake up each day because of God’s mercy towards us. Imagine how God has sustained us even if we were lying unconscious throughout the entire time that we were sleeping. Anything could have happened, but God preserved us and gave us another day.

Heavenly Father, may I always start my day with a grateful heart towards You for the new day to come, no matter what challenges I face. Remind me never to face it alone but to always depend on You every hour of the day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Start Your Day with a Prayer?

We should start our day with a prayer because Christ did so. Christ is our supreme example whose ways we should all follow. (Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.) says that when it was still dark in the morning, Jesus went to a desolate place to pray. However, aside from Christ being our example, the Bible also commands us to thank God. In (1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.), it is written that in any circumstance we may find ourselves, we are to give thanks to God and rejoice. We must give thanks and rejoice whether we have been having good or bad days. (Ephesians 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;) also tells us that we are to give thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Even if we know that the day we are about to face is challenging, there is still reason for us to thank God and rejoice with the new day that He has given us, that God is good, and that His steadfast love endures forever. As we face another day, God’s goodness and love remain. As mentioned before, it is only by God’s love and mercy that we can wake up and live another day. That alone is enough reason to thank God in the morning as we start our day.

Also, we are not meant to face our upcoming day alone, just as we are not to live our Christian lives alone. Even about the day that is about to start, we are to face it with God, depending on Him for everything that we need, whether grace, wisdom, strength, or provision, for the day. In 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we are to humble ourselves under God. Humbling ourselves means depending on Him and therefore casting to Him our anxieties and concerns.

How To Pray As You Start Your Day?

First, it would be wise to set an alarm every day to dedicate that early time to prayer. Of course, you can drink water, go to the bathroom, or do some essential things as soon as you wake up. The point here is to dedicate your time right after waking to prayer before God. Our greatest example is Christ when He wakes up to pray to God in the morning. However, that does not mean you must wake up at 3 or 4 am. As you pray, think about God’s grace, mercy, and goodness in your life aside from being able to wake up for another day. As you ponder them, indeed, there are a thousand things you can thank God for. It is also the best time to give God your concerns for the day and ask Him for your needs, whether grace, strength, wisdom, or prudence. (Philippians 4:6-7; Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.)

Father in heaven, thank You for Your faithfulness and goodness sustaining me throughout my life. Thank You for watching over me as I sleep and for your love that enables me to see another day. Give me the strength I need as I face another day at work and the wisdom to handle whatever problems I encounter. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The idea here is communing with God as the first thing we do as our day starts. If you look up the internet and social media, you will find many resources and advice on how to start your morning or the routine you should do. For believers, the best way to start our day is with prayer, where we commune with our Heavenly Father.
