A Military Wife Prayer for Deployment

As a wife whose husband is going on deployment, it is understandable if you are worried about the safety and well-being of your husband. In those times, we can’t rely on any one else apart from God. In (1 Peter 5:6-7 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: asting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.), it is written that we are to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God. Humbling yourself means acknowledging that it is only God whom you can depend on. You can’t be with your husband, but God can in His omnipresence. As you humble yourself before God, you cast the anxieties and cares you have regarding his deployment and well-being to Him.

Heavenly Father, remind me never to keep these cares and worries regarding my husband’s well-being in his deployment but instead cast them all to You, who cares about me and my husband. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Can I Pray for My Husband Who Is Being Deployed?

The prayers you can say for your husband are those pertaining to his well-being. Knowing that it is a deployment, safety is one of your concerns and, therefore, one of the prayers you can say. Your husband may be deployed in an area where fighting is intense, and the platoon, department, or squad that your husband is with may engage in combat. Even if your husband is not necessarily in combat missions or at the front lines, whether he is a cook, office admin, or one who is on desk duty, you should still say a prayer of safety. Regardless of the duties expected of him, there are still chances he will be in danger.

If your husband is a believer, you can pray for him to be faithful to God while he is on deployment and that he will live a life that would glorify Him. In Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches us to let our light shine before others and live a life that points people to who God is so that they may glorify Him. This is how your husband can be faithful—by pointing people to Christ, who is the real light of the world. For that, you can pray for grace upon your husband.

You can also pray for grace and strength for your husband regarding whatever trials or difficulties he is facing. He may be missing you and the family, so he needs strength. Another possible scenario is that he may have lost a fellow brother in arms, and because of that, he will need comfort and strength to keep on serving. Perhaps he is having other challenges at work, even if they are not combat-related.

How Can I Pray for My Husband?

You can pray by lifting to God your prayer requests regarding the well-being of your husband, who is on deployment. In (Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.), it is written that we are to present our prayer requests to God, whose peace that transcends all understanding shall guard your heart and mind. First, you must consider your concerns and prayer requests regarding your husband’s well-being. Is he about to go to the front lines? If so, you must pray for safety. Is he having challenges when it comes to reaching out to his fellow servicemen for Christ? Did he share some difficulties he is having on a recent call? Whatever those things are, they can be your concerns, which you can present to God in prayers.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I pray that as my husband is being deployed, You will keep him safe from harm or danger. Protect him physically, mentally, and emotionally. Give him the grace he needs to live a life that honors You. Let him point people to Christ by how he lives his life, and allow him to preach the Gospel to them. Give him the strength he needs regarding the challenges he is encountering. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray for my husband that You will soften his heart and open his spiritual eyes to who Christ is so that he may believe the Gospel, follow Christ, and repent from his life of sin. Thank You, Father, for no one is too far from Your grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If your husband is not yet a Christian, the most important prayer you can say is for him to be saved, as the second sample prayer above shows. Given that his nature of work is inherently dangerous, praying for his salvation is the most urgent prayer. Of course, as his wife, you should also do your part in preaching the Gospel to your husband. As you preach to him, pray that the Holy Spirit shall turn his heart of stone to a heart of flesh and open his spiritual eyes that he may believe and see Christ.
