A Little Prayer for You to Keep Faith and Strength

As we go through the journey of our Christian life, there will be times when we will encounter challenges, afflictions, and difficulties. In those times, when we pray to God for strength to weather such storms, we continually seek the grace to place our faith and trust in Him. We fix our eyes on Him by always holding on to His promises, knowing that everything works together for the good of those who love Him, whom He has called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.). The Bible never promises that the Christian life will be perfect. However, the grace, mercy, love, and strength in Christ promise to stormproof our lives. We should never lose heart but instead brave whatever tests are before us.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because as I face challenges and difficulties, I am not facing them alone. You are with me, supplying me with the grace and mercy I need to tackle these challenges head-on. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Do We Pray to Keep Faith and Have Strength?

We pray to God for grace to keep trusting Him and for the strength we need because we ultimately depend on Him. (Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.), perhaps one of the famous verses in the Bible, says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. That means as we face our difficulties and afflictions in life, we don’t face it by our strength but by our strength in Christ. The strength to keep the faith and trust God despite being in the middle of the storm also comes from God.

That is why we pray to God, humbling ourselves and casting our cares to Him. 1 Peter 5:6-7 teaches us to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God. Humbling ourselves means that we don’t take matters into our own hands. For example, if you are going through a particular difficulty, you don’t shoulder it, relying only upon yourself, as mentioned above. Humbling ourselves means acknowledging that on our own, we cannot handle it. It takes humility to stop depending on ourselves and start relying on God. As we humble ourselves, we cast our cares and concerns to God. In (James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.), it is written that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Humbling ourselves before God means coming before His throne of grace to ask Him for the grace and mercy we need (Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.). Whatever grace and strength we need to keep our faith and persevere in our seasons of storms, all comes from God. He gives us grace and mercy. As we pray to God for the grace and mercy we need, remember that His grace is sufficient in times of weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.). If you feel weak and have a hard time pressing on in faith in your time of affliction, know that it is where God’s power is made perfect. Whenever you are weak, it is where you are strong because of God’s grace at work in you.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

How Do I Pray to Keep the Faith and Have Strength?

We pray to keep the faith by asking God simply and concisely for the grace, mercy, and strength we need. It is as simple as asking. However, the most important aspect of this that we have to take note of is our posture. We must be humble before God, acknowledging that He is our only boast and that we depend on His grace and mercy. When we humble ourselves, we start to ask out of our dependence on God. Our comfort is that Christ is full of grace and truth. In John 1:16, it is written that we receive grace upon grace in Christ. As you ask God for grace, mercy, and strength, you can tailor it to the specific area in your life where it is needed.

Below are some examples of these little prayers:

Father in heaven, I have a hard time with the ministry. My character, patience, and gentleness are constantly tested. Give me the strength and grace to keep trusting You, knowing You are sovereign and the One who watches over me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I have been through a tough time these past few weeks. As I face another day today, give me the grace to be strong and keep fixing my eyes on You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, as I go through a storm right now, help me always to trust You, knowing You are sovereign over the storm. Give me the grace to be strong and always remember that it is in times of weakness that Your power is made perfect. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

God is our heavenly Father. As our Father, He wants us to keep trusting and relying on Him. Everything comes from God alone. (Romans 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.) states that ‘from God, through God, and to God are all things.’ As you brave the storm, the grace and strength you need come from Him. He is also the means for it, and He is the end goal of it.
