A Prayer Before A Staff Meeting

Whether facing big or small things in life, we should always depend on God in those matters. Even if a particular matter in our lives is going well, or if it is trivial, we are not beyond the need of God’s grace. Even if you are about to have your staff meeting, whether you are preparing to discuss severe and significant matters or small and trivial ones, it is always a humbling choice to pray to God before it begins. It shows that you are always dependent on His grace and mercy.

Father in heaven, thank You, because in Christ, we can freely approach Your throne for grace and mercy in times of need. Give us the grace and mercy we need as we commence our staff meeting today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Source Of Wisdom And The Source Of Everything

What you will need in a staff meeting is wisdom, knowledge, understanding, prudence, leadership, communication and technical skills, along with many other things. However, why do we always ask God for grace and mercy? Because whatever wisdom one has, or the skills and talent that makes them a competent team player, it is not because of a person’s inherent capabilities. Those are all just because of God’s grace and mercy.

Think of any competent person, perhaps Stephen Hawking with all of his intellect, Steve Jobs with his prowess in innovation, Kobe Bryant with his athletic abilities, or Elon Musk with his visionary mind. Everything they have, even their abilities, ultimately comes from the LORD. We call it grace and mercy because, in the first place, what we deserve from God is not the favor of having whatever talent or abilities that would help us, but His wrath.

We are initially recipients of His wrath because of our sins (Romans 1:18; Romans 5:10). Only in Christ can we be reconciled with God, forgiven, gain eternal life, and be in a standing where we receive grace and mercy from God (Hebrews 4:16). In fact, even what unbelievers have is what we call common grace, the kind of grace that God shows both to the just and unjust (Matthew 5:45). Ultimately, it means that God is the source of everything (Psalm 24:1). From Him, through Him, and to Him are all things (Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.). Hence, no one can boast of their self-capabilities.

For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

If God is the source, then it is only fitting that He is who we seek when we need wisdom as we begin our staff meetings where discussions, deliberations, decisions, and other vital activities occur.

In Daniel 2:17-18, no wise men could interpret King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Wise men during Daniel’s time were well-educated, men of great intellect that kings and emperors could consult with. However, this time, no one was smart enough to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. As Daniel and his friends were about to be captured and executed, Daniel tried to buy time for them. In doing so, he told his friends to seek God and His mercy concerning the mystery of the king’s dream. It shows us that God is indeed the source of everything. Hence, we should remember to be humble and always depend on Him for the things we need.

Prayer As You Start The Meeting

As you start your prayer meeting, there are several things that you can keep in mind that would constitute a good prayer before the staff meeting begins.

1. Be humble before God and acknowledge that He is the source of everything.

You must acknowledge that without God’s help, you would be unable to do anything during that staff meeting. Even your ability to speak is still due to His grace and mercy. Everything comes from Him. Therefore, it is only fitting that we humble ourselves and accurately remind ourselves that we are incapable apart from God. Only then do we have a humble posture and heart to depend on God for the grace and mercy we need for our staff meeting. Our confidence should be in the power and faithfulness of God (Psalm 20:7).

2. Ask God

As we humble ourselves and know that on our own, we are unable, and that whatever talents we have all come from God, we will go to the One who is the very source of whatever we need to have a fruitful meeting. Hence, we pray to God for the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, skills, and talents we need (Philippians 4:6-7). Ask because you are dependent on God (James 4:2).

Heavenly Father, as we begin our staff meeting, I pray for the grace and mercy we need. Give us the wisdom, understanding, foresight, and deliberativeness to discuss and decide on essential matters today, LORD. We commit everything that we do today to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Here are a few good verses to remember as you pray before your staff meeting: 1) Remember to commit to God all that occurs in the staff meeting (Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.) because; 2) you work heartily for the LORD and not for men. When you commit and work for the LORD and depend on Him for the grace that you need and pursue to glorify Him with it, 3) He is glorified (1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.). Also, if you have members in the staff who are not yet Christians, you may want to subtly mention the Gospel in your prayer.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans
