A Good Prayer Before a Meeting

A meeting is a gathering where you talk about important matters, whether it’s a business meeting, group meeting for a school project, ministry meeting, family meeting, or another kind of meeting. You are gathering together to plan out, decide, address, and monitor certain essential topics. As such, praying before the meeting is always a good way to begin. That way, we can entrust everything to God and depend on Him as we meet about important issues.

Father in heaven, I pray that we will have a productive meeting today and be able to finish everything, addressing all the urgent concerns. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What Can You Pray Before Starting a Meeting?

When considering what to pray for before a meeting, think about what’s essential in order for the meeting to be successful. For example, you can pray that there will be no technical difficulties. That means praying that there won’t be any power outages, especially if you are using technology to present data or give a presentation. Perhaps you have some participants joining you through a video call, and you want everything to go smoothly. This could also mean praying that there won’t be annoying glitches. For example, if someone is presenting and the screen keeps blinking, that could get pretty distracting.

Something else to keep in mind that you can pray before starting a meeting is asking God for a fruitful and productive session. You may spend hours and hours discussing matters, planning some things, and addressing items, but it would all be pointless if your meeting didn’t achieve its goal. Safeguard your mission by praying to God that your meeting will bear fruit.

A fruitful and productive meeting would also require the participants or persons involved to have the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and excellence they need. For example, if you are meeting for a particular school project, it would take wisdom and excellence for the students to develop good ideas for the task at hand. If you are a corporate worker and, at times, you have meetings where you carefully evaluate past performances, you will need understanding and clear thinking to make reasonable assessments. Otherwise, the meeting won’t achieve its goal. In other words, pray for God to give you the grace you need, like wisdom and understanding, so that you can have a productive meeting.

Another one, although it may look unnecessary, is praying for unity among the people who will meet. In a meeting, there are times that conflicts may arise. That is due to different biases, ideas, perspectives, and personalities. It is not wrong for people to have these. In fact, this is why people are meeting to talk—each person contributes a unique idea or perspective to a situation. However, you don’t want people to take disagreements personally. Instead of having a meeting, you might find yourself trying to stop an argument between people. Therefore, pray for unity among everyone and that they won’t take anything to heart.

How Can I Pray Before a Meeting?

If you are the one who is leading the meeting, you can say that you are about to start the meeting and that you will all just pray shortly before beginning. You can include the prayer points we have mentioned above or other concerns regarding your meeting. Simply present your requests to God (Philippians 4:6- 7 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.).

If someone else is leading, you can approach them before the meeting begins and ask if you can pray for the meeting before you all start. If that figure of authority does not allow you, it’s okay. You can still pray on your own.

Also, if some of the people present in the meeting are not yet Christians (maybe no one else is Christian), you can include the Gospel in your prayer. That way, they have an opportunity to hear it. Keep yourself open for questions if they happen to want to learn more about your prayer.

Below is an example of a prayer before a meeting:

Father in heaven, thank You for this opportunity to meet and discuss these issues. I pray that everything will go smoothly during our meeting. Let’s have a fruitful discussion today and achieve what we need to achieve. Give us the grace, wisdom, and understanding we need as we discuss. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that we may receive forgiveness and eternal life in Him. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

A Good Prayer Before a Meeting

Praying before a meeting allows you to be the salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16). Aside from a ministry meeting or any meeting related to the church, chances are good that there are unbelievers in your group, whether you are holding a corporate meeting, school project meeting, etc. When we pray, we take the opportunity to glorify God so that others may see who He is.
