A Christian Prayer for Unbelievers

As followers and believers of Jesus Christ, we are the salt and light of this world. We are called and chosen to be part of God’s Kingdom of Light, and to advance His Kingdom through sharing the Gospel, healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, and causing unbelievers to see that God is real, God is love, and God is mighty to save us through Christ Jesus.

We must pray not only for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ but also for those who have not yet encountered the love of the Father—those who have not known the truths of the Gospel and His Word. So what would be a good prayer for the unbelievers? Here is a simple prayer for you to pray for them:

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved. I pray that the Gospel would reach nations that haven’t heard and known Jesus Christ and the things He has done. And I pray for salvation to come upon every lost soul. Prepare their hearts and minds to receive the Good News and for miracles to manifest and set them free in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.

There are many other things that you can pray for unbelievers. Here is a list of some of these:

  1. Pray for their salvation

1 Timothy 2:4 says that it is God’s desire for everyone to be saved. You can pray and declare salvation in Christ Jesus to all the lost souls.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.

  1. Pray that the Holy Spirit may come upon them

John 14:17 says that the world cannot receive the Spirit of Truth because it cannot see Him or know Him. You can pray for unbelievers in this world to recognize and come to know the Holy Spirit through Christ Jesus.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.

  1. Pray that the LORD of Harvest sends laborers to their area

The Gospel won’t reach places if few laborers are in the Kingdom of God. That is why Jesus said in Matthew 9:38 to ask the LORD of Harvest to send laborers into the field to reach as many souls as they can. You can pray to the LORD of Harvest to raise servant leaders with passion and fire for the lost, in Christ Jesus.

  1. Pray that they may know the One True God in Christ Jesus

John 17:3 says that to experience eternal life is to know the only true God as well as Jesus Christ. We know that many nations believe in and worship many gods and idols. You can pray that these nations will be opened to the truth that there’s only One True God in the name of Jesus Christ.

How do you pray for unbelieving friends?

In your faith walk with God, there will always be friends who may challenge your faith and beliefs. Some may question you, mock you, or laugh at you, and some may not believe at all. Regardless of your friends’ current state, it is God’s will for you to see them the way the Father sees you. 2 Corinthians 5:16 says we are to regard no one according to their flesh. You must see past their deeds and dig into the gold within them—their true nature and identity in Christ Jesus. When you see them the way God sees them – the way Heavenly Father looks at them – you will be passionate in your prayers for your unbelieving friends.

How do you pray for your unbelieving friends? You can pray in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the lives of my friends. You purposefully surrounded me with them so they will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and that You are love. Thank You for manifesting the fruit of the Holy Spirit in me, that they may see Your Spirit at work in my life. Use me, God, to manifest Your presence and miraculous work so that my friends will find true salvation in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.

You can also pray the Scriptures to your unbelieving friends. Nothing is more powerful and effective than praying and declaring the very Word of God. You can declare God’s promises to them. Here are some Bible verses that you can pray and declare to your unbelieving friends:

  1. Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.

Can a Christian pray for a non-believer?

Christians can definitely pray for non-believers and unbelievers alike. In fact, the moment we receive the salvation of Jesus Christ, it causes us to burn with passion for the lost, knowing how much freedom and abundance of life there is in Christ Jesus, in His Word, and in being a part of God’s spiritual family. A person who has truly encountered God will not keep his or her mouth shut in speaking the truths of God, sharing the Good News, and testifying of the LORD’s doing in one’s life. The moment you are born again, your passion becomes the passion of Christ, which is to seek and save those who are lost.

Taking a look at the life of the Apostle Paul, his past life was not that much different than that of an unbeliever. Despite having knowledge of the Scriptures, he did not believe in the LORD Jesus Christ and even killed the followers and believers of Christ Jesus. That was, up until he encountered the Spirit of Jesus Christ on the way to Damascus. Since that encounter, he was forever changed from Saul to Paul, and a man who once belonged to the kingdom of darkness was redeemed into the Kingdom of Light. We’ve seen how God used him greatly, especially on behalf of the Gentiles. He was a fitting example to follow when it came to burning with passion for the lost. The Apostle Paul reached out to the Gentiles, who knew neither Jesus Christ nor the culture Paul had come from.

Like the Apostle Paul, God can significantly use you too—to reach out to the unbelieving and non-believers. As you make yourself available, the LORD is sending you to nations where His Gospel, along with signs and wonders of His power, will reach the lost.

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me a vessel of the Holy Spirit, where I can manifest the works of the Gospel and preach the message about Jesus Christ. I make myself available for the advancement of Your Kingdom. May my life glorify You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for your desire that everyone be saved.
