A Christian Prayer of Gratitude

Gratitude and thankfulness are God’s will for His people. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says that we are to be thankful in all circumstances, for it is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus. There are many things that you can be grateful to God for; you can thank Him for giving you another chance to wake up today, for the food on your table, for keeping your family safe from harm, for your job, for your talents, and so much more. When you pray to the Father, you can pray in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for all the wonderful things You are doing in my life. Thank You for keeping my family and me protected at all times and for the Holy Spirit, who is here to guide me into Your truths. I praise You and glorify You in all things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I thank You for all the wonderful things You are doing in my life.

A Christian prayer of gratitude

Gratitude causes our minds and hearts to be aligned to heaven’s perspectives. Being thankful even for the smallest of things causes you to see the hand of God moving in every area of your life and to acknowledge what He has done. Proverbs 3:6 tells us that when we acknowledge Him in all things, He straightens our path.

Aside from being thankful to God for what He is doing in your life, you can also thank Him for other people’s lives and begin to bless them in your prayer. For instance, you can thank God for the life of your friend who has been with you in all seasons of life. You can also thank God for the life of your spouse, your children, your boss, your co-workers, and so many more.

In the Bible, one of the greatest stories that show examples of gratitude is the story of the ten lepers (see Luke 17:11-19). When Jesus Christ encountered ten lepers that asked for His healing, he sent them to show themselves to the priests. And on the way, the lepers were healed. However, out of the ten lepers, only one made an effort to go back to the LORD and thank Him. It pleased the LORD, and that one person who returned wasn’t just healed, but he was also made whole by Jesus Christ. The lesson we can learn from this story is that gratitude causes us to make an effort—to give thanks verbally or through any other means. The other nine lepers probably felt it was inconvenient to go back to JESUS and say thank you, or maybe they forgot who healed them because they were focused on getting healed. But we can learn that there is a great blessing in being thankful and in expressing our gratitude to the LORD and to all those who deserve to hear it.
