A Goodnight Prayer For Everyone Just Holding On

Almost all people all over the world have inner struggles and challenges to face and overcome, and as Christians, we are not exempted from that. And sometimes, some of us are barely holding on each day. That is why the Apostle Paul reminded the believers to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world” (1 Peter 5:8-9).

As you are here looking for a goodnight prayer for everyone just holding on, may God bless your heart for wanting to intercede for those who are struggling, and may He help you overcome your life’s struggles as well. You can say a prayer in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I lift up to You all those who are just holding on in life right now. You know each of them and all of their life’s struggles. Thank You for never leaving them or forsaking them. May You bless them with a good night’s rest and strengthen them for their next day in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I lift up to You all those who are just holding on in life right now.

For God’s children, it is reassuring to know that we always have the Heavenly Father on our side. He knows what we are going through, and it is only through Him and His Word that we can walk victoriously and have peace of mind and heart through Christ Jesus despite the challenges we may be facing.

Jesus Christ said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

If you still haven’t received the Lord Jesus Christ into your life, you may check this article (How to Pray to Accept Jesus Christ) to walk in victory through Him Who loves us.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:35-37).

What to do when you are barely hanging on each day?

When people are barely holding on each day, it can take a toll on their sleep, physical health, and overall well-being. Sleep deprivation due to depression, overthinking, constant worries and fears, and all sorts of inner struggles can cause one to be in an unending battle that is tiring and draining mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

When you are barely hanging on each day, this can be a difficult position to be in, and that is not God’s will for your life. God’s perfect will for His children is that they may prosper in all things. 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” An empowered person in Christ will never allow their soul to enter into such a state. Here are some helpful things that you can do to empower your inner man in Christ Jesus:

1. Read and meditate on God’s Word daily.

Romans 12:2

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Reading and meditating on God’s Word, not just from time to time but daily, will expose every lie the enemy may be throwing at you each day. We know that the world’s culture and principles are opposite to the will of God, and the only way to know and understand God’s will for our lives is through the Scriptures. And when the lies are exposed as you read God’s Word, your inner man gets empowered, and you don’t have to live each day from a place of barely hanging on but living in abundance through Christ Jesus.

2. Invite the Holy Spirit to take over your life.

Romans 8:13-15

“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

Allowing the Holy Spirit to take over your mind and heart as you discipline yourself by reading God’s Word each day, you’ll begin to see a greater purpose and destiny for your life in Christ Jesus. Remember that the flesh is self-centered. But constantly thinking about your failures, fears, worries, and anxieties is a sign you are focused on yourself rather than what God can do in the situation, what He promised about your future, what Jesus Christ already did on the cross, and so on. By allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you each day, you’ll begin to focus on God and His Word, His promises, the victory of Christ Jesus, and the eternal things that truly matter.

3. Think about heavenly things.

Colossians 3:2

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Heavenly Father, I lift up to You all those who are just holding on in life right now.

Thinking about heavenly things, which is like constantly renewing your mind with the Word of God, allows you to focus on things that matter most—your relationship with God, His promise of eternal life, and the eternal rewards in Christ Jesus. Constantly thinking about heartaches, stressful people and circumstances, worries, and fears won’t give you solutions to your problems but only more burdens and greater lies. Jesus Christ said that worrying doesn’t add even a single day to your life (see Matthew 6:27). But when you set your affection on things above and not the things here on earth, and when you focus on God and His Word rather than your problems and difficult people, you gain peace of mind and heart, a good night’s rest, and good health, which gives you better perceptions and insights in life. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

4. Share the Word of God with a broken soul and find the means to help others in need.

Proverbs 11:25

“The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”

Heavenly Father, I lift up to You all those who are just holding on in life right now.

When you are barely hanging on each day, it helps not to focus on yourself, as discussed in point number two. Pray to God to send you broken people and encourage them with the Word of God. Allow your pain to minister to others and make a wonderful message out of it. Proverbs 11:25 promises that refreshing others will result in you being refreshed. Thus, encouraging others in their difficult times will result in you being encouraged and empowered as well. Give, and it shall be given to you (see Luke 6:38).

5. Get into fellowships, godly meetings, and gatherings in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 10:25

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Heavenly Father, I lift up to You all those who are just holding on in life right now.

It is important not to isolate yourself when you are barely hanging on each day. Instead, connect to a godly community that can pray for you, empower you, and encourage you. When you receive Christ and become a child of God, you have become a part of His Kingdom family. We are brothers and sisters in Christ who all need each other, helping and loving one another so we may overcome this world together and glorify God with our sanctified and renewed lives.

6. Talk to a trusted pastor or a spiritual leader about your struggles.

James 5:14-16

“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

James 5:14-16 shows us a principle of confessing and opening up to God’s spiritual leaders. When you confess to them your problems and struggles, they can pray for you, give you wisdom, constantly check on you, and let you know that you are not alone in this journey. And their prayers are powerful and effective according to God’s Word. So, don’t hesitate to open yourself to a Spirit-filled man/woman of God.

7. Meditate on God’s love and grace for you.

Ephesians 3:16-19

“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Nothing can truly empower and motivate a downcast soul more than knowing Someone still cares, understands, pursues, and is extremely head over heels for them, cheering them on to win battles and be successful in life. That Someone is God Almighty. There is none like Him, and He loves and gives love like no other in this world. The moment you begin to meditate on His love for you, His promises for you, and His plans for your life, the more you’ll realize what a waste of time it is to think about worldly things when He has so much in store for you in this life. And this is not only for you, but you are meant to impact others and be the answer to their prayers as you partner with God in your day-to-day living.

The list continues as you partner with the Holy Spirit each day. He alone can reveal and show you the ways in which God will be glorified. Your life in Christ Jesus has a greater purpose, and just hanging on in this life is not part of God’s great plan.

How can I be motivated to live each day?

As we have listed and discussed the seven things mentioned above, we realize that living each day motivated and empowered just takes faith in Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

When your mind is aligned according to God’s Word, you can walk in the victory of Christ Jesus every day, no matter the attacks of the enemy and the challenges life may bring. Because of your faith in Christ and in His Word, the whole armor of God is protecting and keeping you from all the schemes of the enemy. And the only One Who truly motivates you and strengthens you to live each day in fullness, beauty, and appreciation for life is none other than the Lord, the true Lover of your soul.
