Meditate on Heavenly Things

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:1-3

Everything happening here on Earth is temporary, yet many people are pouring out their whole lives in an attempt to live only for what is temporary. As Christians, we no longer live like that. The moment we receive Jesus Christ as our Personal Lord and Savior, we no longer rely and trust on our own strength and capabilities, but on His power and strength.

Sometimes, things in life can overwhelm you and fill your mind with the cares of this world—family, job, business, careers, even your destiny and ministry. However, Colossians 3:1-3 reminds us to set our eyes on the realities of heaven and let heavenly things fill our thoughts, not just the things here on Earth. If we fix our eyes on the Lord, depend on Him and trust in Him, He will never fail us. He will prove Himself faithful, able and sovereign in all things. No time is wasted when we spend it in the presence of God.

As you come to the Heavenly Father in prayer, simply thank Him for the new life that you now have with Christ. Thank Him for adopting you as His own child; you now have a Father you can lean on and trust. You can enter into His rest as you set your mind on the reality of heaven—the knowledge that you are already victorious in Christ Jesus. You no longer need to control your own life, for you have a good Father who looks after you and everything that matters to you. Praise and magnify our God, who is so good and gracious to you in all things.
