A Good Prayer For Someone Missing

When someone goes missing, we pray for the well-being of that person and don’t automatically assume the worst. While indeed something grave must have happened, automatically assuming the situation is beyond saving does not help. What would help is praying for them to be found as soon as possible. Start by praying for the well-being of the person who is missing. You can pray for their physical safety and that wherever they are, they are safe. There are chances that whatever happened, the person may be injured, so pray that they will be fine until help arrives. You can also pray for their mental and emotional well-being. Whether a person is stranded and lost in a forest, kidnapped, or trapped, there is always mental and emotional toil. Hence, you can also aim to safeguard them in that regard.

If the missing person is not yet a Christian, the most important prayer you can offer is for them to know Jesus, repent, and believe in His finished work on the cross. The Bible says in (Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”) that salvation is found in Christ alone. There is no way to be saved other than Christ, who is sinless and took our sins on the cross, paid for their penalty, and imbued His righteousness into anyone who believes in Him. One may ask if praying such a thing is even useful if someone is missing, given the many circumstances that could have befallen them. However, indeed, saying such a prayer is never in vain. Aside from James 5:16, which tells us that prayer is powerful, we serve a sovereign (Psalm 97:6) and all-powerful God in whom nothing is impossible (Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”).

 

Of course, you don’t just pray for the person’s mental, emotional, physical, and eternal well-being. Ultimately, you pray that they shall be found safe and sound by the authorities or search parties.

Father in heaven, I pray for the missing person to be safe and sound physically. Help them to be emotionally and mentally resilient, whatever their situation may be right now, and to have the wisdom to navigate their way out of it. I pray that the authorities and the people searching will be able to find them as soon as possible. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How To Pray for Someone Missing

You can pray for someone who is missing by keeping the prayers we have mentioned above in mind. Pray for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, their eternal well-being if they are not yet saved, and also for them to be found as soon as possible. However, there are also other related people you can pray for, like the people involved in the search, authorities, investigators, and the family. In fact, you can pray for the search and investigation itself. Pray that it will be fruitful and that the missing person will be found. You can also pray for people not just to turn a blind eye but to know if they have really seen the person. Praying for helpful tips and information to arrive to the family and the authorities could also be good. You can take time to think about what would be helpful for the missing person, the family, and the people involved in searching and lift it to God in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7).

Heavenly Father, I pray for the missing person on the poster who was last seen going camping alone in the forest. I pray that he is safe and sound and that despite possibly sustaining injuries, he is alive and well. I pray that the authorities and search parties will be able to find him as soon as possible and find any clue as to where he could have gone in the forest. I pray for comfort upon the missing person as well as the family. Give the authorities and search parties the grace they need to be detail-oriented and leave no stone unturned until they find the missing person. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As Christians who are the salt and light to the world (Matthew 5:13-14), we are to pray for the patient whenever an ambulance passes by. The principle applies whenever we see a missing person’s poster or see or hear about a missing person on the news. Praying for the person who has gone missing is one way a Christian can be the salt and light wherever they are.
