A Good Prayer For Educators

Educators play a vital role when it comes to the future of the nation. The future politicians, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, leaders, and people who will be making an impact on the values of society are all studying on campuses right now. The next president is probably studying political science and the next CEO of a Fortune 500 company taking his MBA. Or perhaps they are still in elementary or high school. Their values today will become the values of society tomorrow, and that’s where educators come in.

Heavenly Father, I pray that all Christian educators make good use of their vocation to disciple, bring young people to Christ, and impart godly values to them. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Educators Are Equally as Important as Students

There is no dispute that today’s students will influence tomorrow’s society. For example, suppose today’s young generation doesn’t believe in the value of purity before marriage. In that case, our future society will have people who will casually sleep with whomever they want. Since they’ll never think about the purity of their marriage bed with their future spouse, they’ll only have leftover pieces of themselves to offer.

In that regard, educators play a critical role. Educators serve as secondary parents. They may spend equal or even more time with students than their parents. In other words, educators have a significant influence over the next generation, whose values today will determine the values of tomorrow’s society.

The same principle can be seen in Joshua 2:10-11. The passage shows us that the generation of Joshua arose from men and women who did not know the Lord. That was the product of the older generation’s inability to teach and disciple their children about who God is. That is why the Bible is clear in instruction that parents ought to raise their children as men and women who fear the Lord and walk in His ways (Proverbs 22:6; Proverbs 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.). Timothy is an example of the older generation discipling the next generation and raising them to become godly men and women. 2 Timothy 1:5 shows us how faith that dwelt in his grandmother, Lois, which also dwelt in his mother, Eunice, also dwelt in Timothy.

Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.

Indeed, the passages we have mentioned pertain to parents. They show us the importance of discipling the next generation. Since educators are already in the education sector interacting almost all the time with students, they significantly influence the next generation. Hence, the educators can also absorb the passages we mentioned not because the students are their children but because they still obey the Great Commission of making disciples (Matthew 28:16-20). In this case, educators are to make disciples out of their students. If they disciple them, impart godly values, and teach them about godliness and how we as believers ought to be set apart, imagine what tomorrow’s society would be like (2 Timothy 2:2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.).

What Can Educators Pray For?

Educators can keep the following prayer points in mind to significantly impact their endeavors to disciple students and bring them to Christ:

1. Boldness

For the next generation to be able to hear the Gospel, believe, repent, and commit to follow Christ, which shall translate into how they live their lives, you have to preach the Gospel first, for how can they believe if they haven’t heard? Hence, pray to be bold and unashamed in preaching the Gospel, which is God’s power of salvation, to those who believe (Romans 1:16). You can even pray for your fellow educators to be bold. Always remember, though, to follow the school rules and not directly preach to the students. You can preach through your lifestyle, which will stir curiosity in the students.

2. Grace to Witness Christ

What plays an essential role in discipling the next generation into Christ-committed believers is how educators live their lives in front of the students. The lives of the educators, how they respond to different circumstances, their professional and private dealings, their conduct, etc., is the first Bible that unbelieving students will get to see. Is how you live your life pointing the students to Christ, or does it glorify God? Pray for the grace to live as witnesses of Christ in every aspect of your life, living above reproach, pursuing godliness, and exercising the fruit of the Spirit (1 Timothy 3:2; Galatians 5:22-23; Titus 2:11-12; 1 Peter 1:15-16).

3. Fruitfulness

When we say fruitfulness, we refer to fruitfulness regarding your ministry endeavors. Educators may have several plans, initiatives, and endeavors to further the Kingdom of God on the campuses. Hence, pray that those endeavors bear fruit, leading to young men’s and women’s hearts being changed and coming to Christ (John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. ).

If you know of some educators, you can pray for them. Another vital prayer point you can say regards the salvation of educators who are not yet Christians. We can never expect them to preach the Gospel without believing it.
