A Father’s Prayer to a Grieving Daughter

As a father, you’ll always love and care for your daughter from her birth until your last breath. A good father always has a sacrificial and selfless love for his daughter. A father shows undying love for his daughter by constantly praying for her, especially when his daughter is grieving.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say. Your ears are near to Your sons and daughters, whose adoption into Your family is bought with the blood of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

Why does a father have to pray for his grieving daughter?

A father has to pray for his daughter in times of grief because, first of all, God commanded us to pray. In Philippians 4:6-7, it is written that we are to present our prayer requests to God because His peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds. As a father, it is normal to have concerns about your daughter as she grieves. You are concerned about her physical, mental, and emotional well-being and have prayer requests regarding those. The Bible tells us that we are to present them all to God. As you present them to God, you will have peace concerning all your worries about your grieving daughter.

A father also has to pray for his grieving daughter because what he can do is limited compared to what God can do. Though the comfort, help, and a father’s presence in the season of grief of a daughter would help a lot, it is still nothing compared to the comfort, peace, and healing that God brings. That is why, in 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we are to humble ourselves and cast our cares or burdens to God. As you comfort your daughter, cast your cares and burdens regarding her to God and depend on Him. God wants us to pray to Him because He also cares about us.

In the end, you pray out of humility, knowing it is God Who will heal, restore, and renew her. It is something that the Holy Spirit shall do in her life.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because in Christ I can submit my prayer requests to You concerning my daughter, who is currently grieving. As I cast these cares and burdens to You, I have peace knowing that You also care for my daughter and me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

What can a father pray for his grieving daughter?

A father can pray three things for his grieving daughter—comfort, healing, and peace.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, scripture tells us that God is a Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, Who comforts us in times of affliction. We ought to comfort others with the comfort that we receive from God. In other words, God is there to comfort your daughter, who is going through an affliction in the form of grieving. Therefore, you can pray for God’s comfort to be upon your grieving daughter and that she will experience it.

Below is an example of a prayer for comfort for your grieving daughter:

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a God of mercy and comfort, Who comforts my daughter in times of grieving. Comfort her soul as she grieves for what she has lost. I pray that she will experience it down to the deepest recesses of her soul. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

Another prayer that you can pray is a prayer of healing for your daughter. Whatever has caused your daughter to grieve, she is experiencing pain, hurt, and other emotions that have caused her heart to be broken. The good thing is that, as written in Psalm 147:3, God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. God will make her heart whole again, just as Christ’s body was broken so she can be made whole.

Here is how you can pray for healing for your grieving daughter:

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are Jehovah Rapha, the God Who heals. You heal not only our physical but also our mental and emotional wounds. I pray for mental and emotional recovery and healing for my daughter so that she will be made whole again. Soothe the pains and hurts that she is going through right now. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

The third prayer you can pray is a prayer of peace upon her. Jesus said in John 14:27 that our hearts ought not to be troubled nor afraid because He has given us His peace. No matter what storms your daughter may be experiencing as she grieves, she can have peace in Christ amid her trouble.

Heavenly Father, I speak peace upon my daughter’s heart despite the storm of grief that she is going through right now. I thank You because in Christ she has this peace that allows her to navigate the storm while being whole in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

Above all else, if your grieving daughter is not yet a Christian, the most important thing to pray for her is to believe in the finished work of Christ and repent. Only in Christ can she receive true comfort, healing, and peace mentioned above.

Father in heaven, I pray that in this season when my daughter is grieving, she will encounter Your love displayed through the Gospel. Soften her heart, Holy Spirit, and open her spiritual eyes so that she may see Christ as the savior and the person she needs and will follow Him. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because in Christ You hear every prayer that we say.

Christ is the very One your daughter needs if she is grieving and not yet a believer. Without Christ, she may feel that she is going through those storms alone, far away from the hand of God. But the Bible says God’s hand is not too short to reach out—we are just separated from Him because of sin. Through the cross of Christ, she can come before God’s throne of grace and receive comfort and love as a child of God. Only in Christ and through Christ can she have a heavenly Father Who will also grieve with her.

How can a father pray for his grieving daughter?

Apart from praying for comfort, healing, and peace, as mentioned above, a father can pray for his grieving daughter by first knowing what is causing her daughter grief. As a father, you ought to be with your daughter. As you are there with her, you will get to see the things that cause her grief and pain. When you recognize those things, you will know the things for which, in her current season, you should pray for comfort, healing, and peace. Below is an example of this:

Father in heaven, I pray for comfort for my daughter, who lost her unborn baby. Comfort her from within the devastation that she is currently feeling. Thank You because You are a God of mercy, Who comforts her in times of affliction. Heal her broken heart and make it whole again. I pray that she will be able to recover progressively and heal from what happened. I also pray for peace upon her heart – the peace found in Christ – amid the loss she is going through right now. Thank You because Your power can minister to her. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

As you pray for your daughter, know that God will minister to and comfort her in the end, as He is the One Who looks after her. If your daughter is not yet a Christian, you should preach the Gospel to her because Christ is the help she needs. The Bible tells us that God is a merciful God, Whose lovingkindness always follows His sheep.
