Having a church building of your own is convenient, and that is ideal in so many ways. For one, you do not have to pay rent on where you hold your weekly services or church events. It also lessens the damages incurred whenever equipment is transferred from one place to another. You will also be free to plan for and conduct as many activities as you want because as owner of the building, you have fewer constraints. Praying for a church building is an exciting endeavor and an opportunity to step out in faith to believe in God for provision.
Heavenly Father, give us the faith to trust You for the provision, guidance, and wisdom that we need as we pray for our church building. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
The Most Important Prayer
As your church members believe in and pray to God for a church building, remember that there is an even more important prayer than for the church building itself. That is to have a right heart as you pray for what you need. Having a right heart means praying and believing God will provide, not because you want the best facilities, a comfortable place, a worship venue with good quality music, etc. but because you want something that would further God’s kingdom.

Those things we mentioned are not bad; they are good blessings to ask for. However, we should not make these embellishments the ultimate desire because, in the end, the very purpose of the church building is for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.). So, we have to guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.).

A Prayer for a Church Building
Father in heaven, help us guard our hearts from being consumed by the gift of having a church building rather than honoring You, the giver. May we fix our eyes on You at all times and see the church building as a mere instrument for Your kingdom and glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Generosity of God’s People
While we ask God for provision for the church building we are praying for, one way God provides for the church is through the generosity of the congregation or the church body itself. This is similar to how God provides for a Christian through the generosity of another Christian. We find such instances in the Bible, and it is just beautiful to see how people have given out of generosity and the desire to build God’s house.
In Exodus 35:4-9, it is written that during the construction of the Tabernacle, Moses invited the Israelites to give from their hearts, and they contributed gold, silver, and other materials needed for the work. Exodus 36:2-7 states that the people had brought so much that the artisans told Moses to tell the people to stop bringing offerings because they had what they needed to complete the work.
So, we can pray that just as we ask God for a church building, the church itself will partake in it—not just in praying but in giving, where everyone gives from the generosity of their hearts. For God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
Heavenly Father, I ask that just as we pray, we will also give. Stir up generosity in our hearts so we will also give in this endeavor of acquiring the church building we pray for. As we ask for a place of worship and ministry for ourselves, may we give with a cheerful heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Asking God for Provision
Last, everything comes from God (Romans 11:36). He owns everything (Psalm 24:1). God is our heavenly Father, so we can come before His throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16) and ask Him for the church building and every other thing that we need—the finances for it, the right team to be in charge of the project, full accountability, wisdom and guidance in planning, and our many other needs. Matthew 7:7-8 tells us that when we ask, we receive. We can simply ask God in prayer.
In the end, we pray to God and believe in Him for provision because we trust Him. Indeed, most of the time, the tithes or funds that a church has are not enough to have even a simple church building. However, such a situation guides us to look not at ourselves and our capabilities but at God. That is when we humble ourselves and come before God to ask Him for provision because we depend on Him.
Father in heaven, we pray for the financial provision we need to begin our church-building project. Give us wisdom as we plan and provide the right people to stay on top of this project with us—people who are God-fearing and have integrity. We believe that You will provide what we need. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Having a church building is exciting in the sense that it can advance your ministry. You can conduct classes to train future ministry leaders, schedule weekly meetings to address mental health, and use the facilities for a variety of other ministry events. As we pray and believe God will provide us with a church building, may we always remember that the importance of it is all about Him.
