How To Pray For A New Home

All of us, at some point in our lives, desire to have a new home. It could be that our current house is not comfortable to live in anymore. There could be some plumbing issues that are hard to fix, infestations, or perhaps the area where you live is not a great area to live in anymore. Because of that, praying and looking for a new home is likely the best option. It could also be that you are moving to a new place and therefore need a new home. Regardless of the reason, it is a big decision to make. Therefore, it is only fitting that we pray to God about it.

Father in heaven, guide us as we look for a new home to live in. I pray that we will be able to find a good house and community in which to live. Thank You because Your hand always leads us wherever You want us to be. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How to Pray for a New Home

Why do we pray to God for a new home?

We must pray to God for several reasons when we seek or desire a new home. One is because we ultimately depend on God for everything. In (6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7), it is written that we are to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. That means casting our cares and concerns to Him because He Himself also cares about us. Looking for or finding a new home is not an easy thing to do. There are many considerations in choosing where to relocate, such as location, finances, and much more. In a sense, it is a burden or concern that we all face. However, the Bible tells us we should not bear it alone. We are to humble ourselves, meaning that we must depend on God, and cast our concerns and cares regarding the search for a new home to God.

That verse applies to several aspects of looking for a new home. One is guidance. Sometimes, when faced with several good options, we do not know what to do or what choice to make. We may be having a hard time deciding which location to transfer to or which house to choose. Given the fork in your road, it is critical for You to depend on God for guidance, clarity, and wisdom as you seek His Word. In (I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Psalm 32:8), it is written that God is the One who instructs us and shows us the way we should go as He counsels us.

We also pray to God as we look for and desire a new home because it involves finances. Most of the time, finances are the biggest challenge of transferring to a new home. We may have found the best possible option for relocating, but what ultimately makes it so challenging is the financial aspect. That is where we must still depend on God. Everything comes from God. In (The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalm 24:1), it is written that the earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof. Everything is owned by God, just as everything comes from Him, who is the source of both tangible and intangible things. Therefore, we must pray to and depend on God for the finances we need, even as we do our part to work our finances out.

Lastly, we should pray to God because He is our heavenly Father. Whenever something happens in our lives, whether good or bad, we always tell the people closest to us, like our family or friends. If we tell them, surely we should also do the same with God in prayer because He is our heavenly Father. It is a privilege that we are able to pray to God. Because of our sins, we are separated from Him. It is only by the atoning and redeeming work of Christ on the cross that the dividing wall of hostility separating us from God has been broken down, as written in Ephesians 2:14-16. Anyone who believes in Christ and repents will be reconciled with the Father and will receive forgiveness and eternal life. Because of that, they have a restored relationship with the Father, to whom they can pray. It is out of grace and privilege that we are able to pray and commune with God.

How can we pray for a new home?

We can pray for a new home by presenting to God our concerns regarding our search and desire for a new home. For example, what concerns do you have as you search or pray for a new home? Is it a lack of finances? Is it difficult to choose between several good houses you have found? Or perhaps it is deciding whether it is really necessary for you to move out at all. Think of your concerns as you pray, desire a new home, and submit them to God.

In Philippians 4:6-7, it is written that we are to present our prayer requests to God. That means whatever concerns we have as we pray for or desire a new home, we can present them to our heavenly Father, whose peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds.

Heavenly Father, I am hard-pressed between the options I’ve found when looking for a new home. I found a good place near my work and my kids’ school, and it is accessible to other places we need to go. The challenge however, is that it is kind of expensive. I pray for the finances that we need to be able to afford the house and move, but if not, I pray that You will lead us to an even better deal where it is cheaper, but the location is also accessible. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Whether you end up moving or not, God is sovereign and has providence. You will be wherever He wants you to be. Whether you stay in your current house or move out, God is the One who looks after and sustains You. Knowing that God’s divine providence is always at work is why we can trust Him wherever He leads us.
