How To Pray For Las Vegas

Las Vegas is famously known as “Sin City”. It’s a place where you can access all sorts of sins and vices. It’s like a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah, a city where people come to gamble, prostitution is rampant, and excessive drinking occurs, among many others. However, that also makes Las Vegas a city that we should always pray and intercede for. The Bible says that we should make prayers, intercessions, and supplications for all people. Thus, we should pray for Las Vegas, its leaders, its people, and the believers living there. 

What do you say when you pray?

There are several aspects that you can pray for concerning Las Vegas. You can keep these aspects in mind and address them whenever you pray for the city. One of the aspects that you can pray for is the city’s government leaders. You can pray for the mayor and the city council, that they may have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Praying for them to listen to the Gospel is essential, because if you want the Las Vegas city mayor and council to exercise godly leadership, they must first repent and follow Christ. Such a thing is only possible if they get to hear the Gospel, repent, and believe in the person and work of Christ. With that, you can also pray for the Holy Spirit to soften the hearts and open the spiritual eyes of the mayor and the city council members so that they may receive the Gospel and repent. You can also pray for them to always lead with wisdom so that they can make the best decisions and govern with integrity and honesty, always putting the people’s interest before their own. Another thing you can pray for them is for them to always do logical and morally right things, and never make legislation that is evil in the eyes of God. You can also include praying for God’s grace to be upon them so that they may abolish the legislated laws or ordinances that currently do not honor God.

1 Timothy 2:1-2

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Another aspect you can include in your prayer is praying for the people of Las Vegas. Pray that God will turn their hearts of stone to hearts of flesh so that they will call upon the LORD and repent from their sinful ways. You are praying for an awakening to happen in the people’s hearts in Las Vegas. It is similar to praying for the government leaders of Las Vegas, that God may work in their hearts so that they receive the Gospel, repent, and believe in the person and work of Christ. 

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The third aspect you can pray for in Las Vegas are the believers there. This aspect is also essential, since they are important when reaching out to the lost in Las Vegas. One example is that believers should obey the mandate to make disciples and preach the Gospel to the lost where they live. If we want the governmental leaders to become godly leaders and for the people there to call on the name of the LORD, then the believers there should preach the Gospel to the lost. That means you should pray for grace for the believers there to be bold, courageous, and unashamed in their preaching of the Gospel. You can also pray for open doors for Christians there to preach the Gospel to key people like government leaders, as well as strategic opportunities that let them preach the Gospel to even more people, such as in offices, campuses, hotels, restaurants, and anywhere else people gather.

Another thing you can pray for the believers there is grace for them to persevere in the faith. One is perseverance in terms of being persecuted. The believers there might be going through persecution because they are faithful in their preaching of the Gospel, and refuse to conform to the patterns of the world. With that, you can pray for them to endure and persevere in the faith and obey God, despite the persecutions and hardships they face from living righteously and obediently. Another thing you can pray for is perseverance in the faith in the sense that they shall never fall away from the faith and return to the carnal world. That is very important to pray, especially since Las Vegas is a city where there is sin everywhere. Pray that the believers there shall remain faithful to God, continue to live pure and holy lives, and become a testimony to the lost for who Christ is. This leads us to another prayer that you can pray, which is praying for the believers in Las Vegas to always be the salt and light in that city. Being the salt and light includes preaching the Gospel to the lost. However, it is not limited to that. Being the salt and light means being involved in the community and demonstrating the Gospel in the real world. It may be helping the homeless, sex workers who want to quit their job, and so many other groups. Being the salt and light means making things better, preserving what is good, and ultimately pointing people towards Christ.

Heavenly Father, You are full of splendor and majesty and are sovereign over everything. I pray for the governmental leaders of Las Vegas, that there will be open doors for them to be able to hear the Gospel. I pray for You to soften the hearts of those leaders, that they may repent and follow Christ upon hearing the Gospel. I pray that You will give them the grace to lead with wisdom and decide the best decisions for Las Vegas. I pray that they shall always lead with integrity and honesty and continuously pursue the good of the public. I also pray for the people of Las Vegas that You will soften their hearts so that they may call upon Christ whenever they hear the Gospel and repent. I pray for the saints in Las Vegas who always obey the mandate to make disciples and preach the Gospel to the lost. Give them the grace to endure and persevere whenever they go through persecution and hardship because of their faith. May they always remain faithful and steadfast towards you and never embrace the pleasures of the world. Empower them to be unashamed of the Gospel and to always be the salt and light to the local community in which they live. Bless the work of their hands, and may the ministry that they do bear fruit. Las Vegas is a city that needs Jesus. People who go there typically think that their sins will satisfy them. However, we as Christians know that only Christ can fully satisfy them, as He is the living water for whom they shall never thirst. Most of all, only in Christ can they find salvation from their sins and reconciliation with the Father.
