How To Pray To God For Healing

In the Bible, one of the names of God is “Jehovah Rapha,” which means that God is our healer. God is all-powerful, majestic, the One Who sits enthroned, the God Most High. It is a given that God can heal no matter what sickness and disease we have. What is too hard for medicine is easy for the LORD. Not only can God heal our physical ailments, but He can also heal us of our emotional and mental wounds.

Father in heaven, You are the God almighty Who is capable of healing every sickness and disease. I thank You because You heal not only physical ailments but also mental and emotional wounds. You can make us whole again physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

What does the Bible say about asking God for healing?

In 3 John 2:1, we see that it is okay to pray that things will be well in our lives, including our health. If we desire and pray for good health, surely, that also means that we can pray for healing if we are ever sick. Philippians 4:6-7 also says that we are to present our prayer requests to God. In everything, even our concerns regarding our health and healing, we are to present them to God, Whose peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds.

That God is a healer has always been established, even in the Old Testament. In Psalm 41:3, the psalmist David talks about God, Who restores His blessed one into good health.

Also, in Psalm 103:2-4, we see God described as someone Who heals our diseases. Just as in the Psalm of David in Psalm 6:2, we can ask God in our personal prayer time for Him to heal us.

We are to pray for healing not only for ourselves but also for others. In James 5:14-15 it is written that a believer’s prayer of faith shall save the sick person. In other words, as Christians, we are called to pray for others and their healing if needed. Christ commanded His church in John 13:34-35 that we are to love one another, and it is by the way we treat one another that the world will know that we are His disciples. Also, in Galatians 6:2, it is written that we are to bear one another’s burdens. If we know of a sick brother or sister in Christ, we are to bear their burdens alongside them by praying for them as if their sickness is also our sickness, and therefore we pray for healing.

God does not heal only physically but emotionally and mentally as well. In Psalm 147:3, it is written that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Whatever experience it is that you may have that has broken your heart and wounded you emotionally and mentally – whether that is a betrayal of a friend, the loss of someone, a disappointment when it comes to our career, or whatever emotional pain that we may have – God can heal it. Even though your heart is broken, He can make it whole again. In fact, even with the pain that you are currently experiencing, you are not lacking because you are whole in Christ.

As you go through a season of emotional pain and mental struggles, know God is with you. In Psalm 34:18, it tells us that God is near to the brokenhearted and saves the ones who are crushed in spirit. In that season of pain, God is near you. As written in Psalm 23, Christ is your shepherd. Even though you feel like you are walking through a dark valley, you ought to fear not because Christ is still with you. His rod and staff comfort you and lead you. God’s mercy and lovingkindness follow you even in the most painful circumstances.

As we pray for healing, it is also important to understand that God is all-knowing and infinite in wisdom. Whatever answer He gives, we can be sure of one thing—that our God does not withhold any good thing from His children, as written in Psalm 84:11, because He is our good Father, as written in James 1:17, Who only gives good things to His children.

How to pray to God for healing

We pray to God for healing by asking Him to heal us. With that, it is important to articulate what it is that we need healing from. Is it some sort of chronic pain? A heart disease? Cancer? A psychological struggle? An emotional pain that has been bringing you down for some time? As you identify and articulate what it is, simply ask God for healing in that regard. When you pray to God, it is important that you pray in faith, trusting the sovereignty of God.

Below is an example of a prayer for healing for both physical and mental aspects:

Heavenly Father, I pray for my brother in Christ, who is battling cancer. I pray that the treatment he receives will be effective and that the cancer cells shall disappear from his body. I pray for full recovery upon him and that he will survive that sickness. I also pray for provision for him and his family for their hospital expense and even a miraculous healing where no more treatment is needed. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I pray for my sister in Christ, who has been having anxiety attacks due to a traumatic experience she had when she was younger. I pray that You would heal her of that traumatic experience and bring restoration to her, both emotionally and mentally. Thank You because she is whole in Christ, and there are no emotional wounds you cannot heal. Meet her, LORD, at that moment in her childhood when she was broken. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

In Philippians 3:20-21, it is written that our citizenship is not here on earth but in heaven. We are but only pilgrims here on earth who await the second coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That is our future hope that when Christ comes again, He will transform our lowly bodies that get sick into glorious ones, and we will be with Him in heaven for all eternity, where no more pain, sickness, tears, and death exist. But more than a perfect place where neither death nor pain exists, we desire to be in heaven because we want to be with Christ. In the end, Christ is our greatest treasure and our very reward. In Him is our life alone.
