How To Pray For A Baby

Almost every couple desires to have a baby or even several children. Despite the challenges in raising kids, there is joy in building one’s home or family. It is an entirely different season for the couple to have a baby of their own, far different than just being married. It is a season that should be walked by faith and total dependence on God, Who provides them the grace they need to be godly parents.

Heavenly Father, my spouse and I ask You for a baby from which so many blessings can come. We pray not only for a baby but also for the grace, strength, and wisdom that we need to raise our baby well and into a fine, godly man or woman. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Do You Pray for a Baby?

We pray and ask God for a baby because the baby that couples get to have ultimately comes from God. We have seen themes in the Bible where having multiple babies is a sign of blessing and favor, and barrenness is a curse and detested. In Psalm 127:3, it is written that children are a heritage from God and that the fruit of the womb, the baby, is a reward. (Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3)

Babies are seen as gifts, and James 1:17 tells us that every good gift comes from the Father. That is why, if we and our spouse desire to have a baby, we come before God’s throne of grace to tell Him about our desire to have a baby and start a family and ask Him for this (Hebrews 4:16). Praying to God for a baby is as simple as asking Him for it. We only have to come to Him to ask. Sometimes we do not have because we do not ask (James 4:2).(Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2)

There are circumstances whereby a couple is struggling to have a baby. Some may have been praying and asking God for a baby for years, and still it hasn’t come. In those times, ceasing to pray is not the best choice. Rather, it is best to keep on persistently praying (Luke 18:1-8). We must keep praying and never lose heart because nothing is too hard for the LORD (Genesis 18:14). He makes everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). (Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Genesis 18:14) (He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11)

It is also important to note that as you pray for a baby, there are also other things you can pray for. One is your health as a couple. Your health could also affect the baby’s health or your chance of conceiving. That is also why whatever health-related hindrance you experience is something you can pray for as a couple if you have been trying to have a baby for a long time.

How Do You Pray for a Baby?

You pray for a baby by praying to God and asking Him for a baby. However, when you come before Him in His throne of grace, you pray with humility, knowing that, in the end, a baby ultimately comes from Him. You also pray in faith, knowing that God is sovereign over everything. Coming to God in prayer for a baby is not simply asking God for it. Remember that, as a couple, it is your heavenly Father to Whom you are talking. As His child, you can talk to Him about your desire as a couple to have a baby and start a family. You can even talk to Him about the plans you have in mind as a couple.

Heavenly Father, my wife and I want to build our own home, start a family, have kids, and raise them to become godly men and women who will know You and serve You. I pray that You would cause these plans that we have to come to fruition. We pray and ask You for a baby, Father. We pray that my wife will be able to conceive soon. Help my wife conceive healthily, LORD. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

If there are health-related hindrances to having a baby, you can also include and address those hindrances in your prayers. For example, the wife may have some health condition that affects her fertility, or maybe the husband is always leaving home for long durations due to work and, because of that, it is not yet wise enough to raise a child. You can address those hindrances or issues in prayers.

Father in heaven, I pray for the fertility issues of my wife to be gone in the name of Jesus. We pray for her health to improve and that she will be able to conceive. I also pray for favor upon my work so that my transfer to an office closer to home where I can be with my family shall be granted, and I may help my wife raise and take care of our newborn baby. We pray and ask for Your favor that we may have a baby soon. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Almost every parent is worried whenever their baby is born. It is understandable whether it is their first time raising a child or not. However, as mentioned above, parenting or raising a child is done by faith. You as a couple are not raising your children alone, but with God. Just as God has brought you in that season of starting a family, He will also provide you with the grace and wisdom you need.
