How to Pray for Fertility

Battling infertility can be painful. Women who were diagnosed as infertile by their doctors due to medical reasons, unknown reasons, or for some other cause often find themselves questioning God, questioning their worth, and being left with bitterness and emotional pain. God understands and does not resent or reject people who question Him. He knows that His thoughts and ways are higher and beyond human capacity to comprehend. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. As you are here looking for how to pray for fertility, you may be asking, “Will I still get pregnant?” “Will I ever get a chance to hold a baby in my arms, change diapers, breastfeed, hear baby cries and laughter?” I just want you to know that there is always hope in God through Christ Jesus. As you put your faith and trust in Him, surrendering unto Him this burning desire of yours to get pregnant, expect that God will show You His faithfulness, grace, and goodness in your life.

God created us with a body, soul, and spirit. And fertility in the natural sense affects not just the body, but the soul and spirit as well. In order to tap into God’s miracle, your spirit and soul must be aligned with the Word of God. Your thinking must agree with what God is saying in His Word even if your need seems impossible in the natural sense. What goes on in your spirit and soul will simply manifest in your body. For instance, the more you think about bodily symptoms, the more they will manifest in your body. But if you think about God’s faithfulness and power, it gives you peace and security, and your whole body is affected by it.

Isaiah 55:8-9 says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

In the Bible, God bypassed the limitations of human bodies many times when it came to fertility. Sarah, the wife of Abraham, was past her fertile age and too old to bear a child. But the God of miracles, our Yahweh, made it possible for her to conceive even in her old age (see Genesis 21:2). Hannah was among the women in the Bible who suffered infertility for a while, and she prayed to the Lord, “O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head” (1 Samuel 1:11). God heard her prayer, and she conceived a child. Rachel too did not bear as many children as Leah did, and she suffered infertility. But in time, God opened her womb, and she gave birth to an anointed son, Joseph (see Genesis 30:22). These are some cases of fertility miracles that had happened in the Bible, and all of them were made possible because God is able to make all impossible things possible. Don’t lose hope. Never give up praying until God opens your womb.

O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head” (1 Samuel 1:11).

How do I pray to have a baby?

It may seem unfair how sometimes those who don’t wish to conceive get pregnant in just a few months, while women who have been trying for years still haven’t conceived a baby despite the earnest desire to start a family. Pregnancy is all about life being created, and we know that the Author of life is none other than God in Christ Jesus. When it comes to prayers like desiring to have a child, only God can create a miracle of life in a woman’s womb. So, how do you pray effectively to have a baby? The Bible tells us that effective prayer comes from a righteous person (see James 5:16). And righteousness comes from Jesus Christ alone. When you put your trust in the LORD Jesus Christ and every time you believe in His faithfulness to fulfill His promises, that is righteousness resulting in effective prayer. So, as you pray to have a baby, believe with all your heart that your prayers are effective because of Christ’s righteousness inside you. God listens to you, and He hears your prayers because of your faith in Jesus Christ.

Moreover, the Bible also says to pray without ceasing and persistently (see 1 Thessalonians 5:17). It will not have been part of God’s instructions for prayers if there’s no need to persevere. But since God says we should not stop praying, don’t stop praying until you conceive a baby. Our natural eyes may not see what’s going on in the spirit, but sometimes things like conception involve spiritual warfare because the enemy hates life. Every time a baby is born, hell trembles because they have the potential to be dead raisers, cancer healers, and soul winners in Christ for the Kingdom of God. The enemy is so scared that he probably battles in the spirit with God’s heavenly angels to prevent a child from being born. That is why you must not stop praying. Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

What does God say about conceiving?

Conception is a gift and a miracle from God. It begins when a man and woman join together to become one flesh, as they leave their mothers and fathers to create a new family (see Genesis 2:24). As discussed earlier, conception, life, and death are all in the sovereignty of God’s will, plans, and purposes. No man can decide to create life, but God does. And sometimes, conceiving a child can be challenging for some couples who wish to have a baby, while others succeed right away. No one knows precisely why infertility happens to some people, even to some Christians, but what we know is that God is able to work all things together for good (see Romans 8:28). Sometimes, the Holy Spirit may reveal the reason why our humblest desire calls for prayer and fasting.

As mentioned earlier, God can bypass natural bodies when it comes to fertility. He opened wombs of older women past childbearing age and answered the prayers of women in the Bible who desired to conceive children. But that doesn’t mean God is holding back good things for those who are unable to conceive a child in their lifetime. Romans 8:32 says that God did not even spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all. Will He not freely give all the other good things for us, too, including the gift of having a child?

So, as you come to God in hope and prayer to conceive a child, know that He isn’t withholding things from you. God loves you and desires to give you a new family. Keep praying and never give up. You will conceive and glorify God in His perfect time. Good things take time, and the best is yet to come as you put your faith in Christ Jesus. He is faithful, and you will have a child.

Now, declare this prayer to yourself, “God is faithful, and I will conceive a child in perfect health in Jesus’ name. I trust in You, God, with all my heart. Amen.

God is faithful, and I will conceive a child in perfect health in Jesus’ name. I trust in You, God, with all my heart. Amen.”
