How to Pray for a Marriage in Trouble

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Psalm 46:1 is a great reminder that whenever we are in trouble, God is our refuge and our strength. Beloved, as you are here today seeking God’s will for your troubled marriage, know that God is with you. He will never leave you or abandon you, whatever your case might be. God knows all things and weighs all matters in justice and mercy. It is not uncommon to experience marital problems; many couples all over the world are suffering. But you are blessed because Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. He is mighty to save your marriage.

How to Pray for a Marriage in Trouble

So, how do you come to God and pray to Him for your marriage problems? You can be real and be honest with God. You can always say, “God, I messed up. Help me. Save my marriage” or you can tell Him, “Lord, I feel like giving up in this marriage. I don’t know what to do anymore. Please give me strength and heal my marriage.” These are conversational prayers with which you can openly share your heart with God. He listens to you. Whatever is breaking your heart is breaking His. God has compassion on you and your marriage. It is His will for every marriage to prosper; to be restored and revived by the fire of the Holy Spirit. It can be draining to carry this burden, so you must surrender the case of your marriage to the Lord. Trust in Him and continuously seek His voice daily. Don’t allow the enemy to take ground in your life. Your prayers are powerful enough to loosen what Satan binds and bind what Satan is loosening (see Matthew 16:19, a prayer principle taught by Jesus).

Moreover, you can also look to the Scriptures to declare over your marriage. Whatever the situation may be, find a scripture promise of God over it. God’s Word is powerful against any of life’s circumstances because God’s Word is His will. If you declare it, it does not return void but comes to pass. For instance, if there is unholiness going on in your marriage, start declaring Christ’s righteousness and holiness in your marriage to your spouse. Don’t declare the negative but speak what God is saying in the scripture.

Romans 5:1-2 says, Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

You can pray this scripture in this manner:

Lord, thank You, for my spouse is made righteous before You through Christ Jesus. He/she can have peace with You through Christ Jesus. I rejoice in this marriage because You are at the center of it all in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If your marriage is suffering from financial debts, declare freedom from debt in the name of Jesus. Cast out the spirit of poverty and the spirit of mammon in your marriage. You have the authority to rebuke the situation because such has already been given to you through Jesus’ name. You can pray in this manner:

In Jesus’ name, this marriage is debt-free! Financial breakthrough is coming through Christ Jesus! Satan, you have no place in our finances! I command you to leave right now because I have the victory made by the blood of Jesus! Amen.

How to Pray for a Marriage in Trouble

Partner with the Holy Spirit in praying for your marriage. Know that nothing is impossible with God; He is able to do all things.

Can God fix a broken marriage?

God can definitely fix a broken marriage because God is a Way Maker and a Promise Keeper. In the Gospel, there was a desperate father who was begging Jesus to heal his boy, as he was demon-possessed. The man said to Jesus, “If you can do anything, have mercy and help us.” And Jesus replied to him, “If I can? All things are possible to a man who believes” (see Mark 9:22-23). Anything is possible with God. If you believe, God will restore your marriage.

Moreover, it is important to keep your prayer life consistent and persistent. Consider the factor of who is affected or involved in these marital problems. Pray for those people diligently. Ask the Lord to heal their hearts as well because the people involved in your marriage, such as your spouse and your children, are major factors in the restoration of your home. While God can restore people’s lives, the decisions and choices of men are one thing God won’t manipulate and change. He respects people’s choices, and choices that are outside the will of God have major consequences. You must be patient with your spouse, your children, your in-laws, and all other factors that have led to a broken marriage.

Don’t give up praying for them, because the enemy will try his best to make you quit. Be sold out for God with the goal of restoring your broken marriage. Stay consistent in your spiritual walk with Him, be led by the Holy Spirit every day, and live a lifestyle of surrender.

How do I let God heal my marriage?

To let God heal your marriage, you must surrender your timeline unto Him and be patient. Like all wounds, it takes time to heal. When God does a deep surgery in your marriage – in your spouse’s heart – it can take time to heal. Let it be and simply be patient and faithful; continuously pray for your marriage and your spouse. Don’t rush the healing process of your spouse. It can be frustrating if your spouse needs time to process and heal, but it’s all part of the marriage journey. You make way for each other’s sake. You consider your spouse above yourself. This is the only way God can heal your marriage. As you walk with the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to produce the fruit of God in you (see Galatians 5:25-26), your spouse will soon be impacted by the changes in you.

For God to heal your marriage, you must constantly walk in surrender unto Him. Let go of control and let God take over. Let Him do the wonders at His own pace and timing. You can pray:

God, I surrender this marriage into Your Hands. I let go of control, and I trust in You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

God, I surrender this marriage into Your Hands. I let go of control, and I trust in You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
