How to Pray Scriptures Over Your Child

Children are a precious gift from the Lord, and it’s always best to direct them towards God and teach them the way to a life of faith in Christ Jesus. Children grow up to have a respectful fear of the Lord, gaining wisdom and understanding in life as they get to know God and develop a relationship with Him. God wants to bless every child, and desires for them to experience His promises written in the Word of God. He needs partnerships with parents in order to manifest the love of the Father imparted to their children

Given that you are here looking for ways to pray the Scriptures over your child, know that your child is blessed to have a parent like you. Your prayers for him/her are powerful and have a great impact both in the spirit and in physical forms. So, as you read your Bible and pray over your child, you must partner with the Holy Spirit, who helps us when we are praying (see Romans 8:26). Let Him show you what to pray for your child and what Scripture promises God specifically wants to be prayed over your child. It is always best to pray God’s will over your child more than the personal desires you may have for your child. After all, we all belong to the Father, in Christ Jesus, before the world even began. His ways and thoughts are always higher, and it’s always for the best, better than we could ever dream of.

As you read God’s Word with the help of the Holy Spirit, He may highlight certain Scriptures for you to pray and declare over your child. For instance, He may share a promise of a successful future in Christ, through Jeremiah 29:11, or a promise of abundant life through Christ, as in John 10:10. You can pray the Scriptures over your child in this manner:

Scriptures:

Romans 8:38-39

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Heavenly Father, I lift to You my child. Thank You for bringing him into this world, and for choosing me to be his parent. His future is already secured in Your hands, for neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature can separate him from Your love, in Christ Jesus. How do you say a blessing over your child?

Blessing your child is incredibly important. Other than affirming their value and identity in Christ, your words can have a great impact on your child’s future and destiny. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Therefore, the more you speak life to your child, the more you will see good things come to pass in their life.

There are many ways for you to say a blessing to your child. Here are some of the ways you can bless them:

1. Tell them how much you love and care for them

Nothing can affirm and bless a child more than the love of their parents. When you verbally say you love your child, it’s a great blessing to their soul. Not all parents can be vocal about their love, but as Proverbs 18:21 says, your words can bring life.

2. Tell them you are proud of them.

When you know your parents are proud of you, it boosts your confidence and gives you the perspective that you can do anything. When children know their parents are proud of them, they tend to do better in whatever they strive to achieve.

3. Tell them that God loves them most of all and has wonderful plans for them.

Having godly parents is the greatest blessing, for we know that spiritual blessings are far greater than any earthly blessing a child can receive. Imparting faith to your child is one of the greatest blessings they will ever receive from you.

4. Tell them that they will be successful in the future.

People get anxious when thinking about the future because of the uncertainty it brings. However, as you speak life into your child’s future, declaring that they will be successful, and that they can do it in Christ, it can ward off spiritual attacks about the future, as they will remember your words about being a successful person.

5. Tell them that nothing can ever separate them from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

It is powerful when your child walks fearlessly in Christ, knowing that God alone is powerful, and that nothing can separate them from the love of God, in Christ Jesus.

How do I pray with my child?

Praying with your child can make both of your prayer lives more heartfelt and powerful. You can pray together with your child by inviting them to come with you as you pray. Let them hear you pray first and set an example of faith. You can read a Scripture, explain what the Scripture means, and suggest how it can be applied in their life, followed by a prayer. You can also pray for your child and let them hear those prayers. Moreover, you can also let your child pray while you listen. Hear out their heart before God, so they can be confident in praying both silently and praying aloud, which can benefit them in their prayer life and relationship with God in the future.

There are many things for which you can pray together with your child. You both can pray about the family itself, expressing gratitude and thanks to God for all things He has done. You can also exalt, praise, and magnify God together, which is a powerful form of prayer, or you can offer a spiritual warfare prayer to let your child know about their spiritual enemy, and warn them that they have to watch out for it. Teaching your child the truths of the Word can raise him as a powerful believer. In this way, they will walk according to their identity and authority in Christ Jesus.

As your child sees you pray and strengthen that deep relationship with God, they will follow your example of faith, which will be a great blessing in their life.

How do I pray to protect my child?

Know that, as you pray to God, He is the ultimate protector of your child. You can always have confidence in the Heavenly Father, who watches over His children and all that matters to them. Your child matters immensely to you, but how much more do you think they matter to the Heavenly Father? No one can exceed the love of God for a soul. His love is always greater.

As mentioned, you can declare a Scripture of God’s promise of protection over your child. This is a powerful and effective way of praying because you are declaring the will of the Father. Protecting your child is His will. Psalms 91 says that He will send His angels to protect those who trust in Him. You can have faith in God, who is faithful in keeping His Word and in protecting your child. You don’t have to worry about your child’s safety every day, if you surrender the matter to the LORD.

As you seek God’s Word and God’s will for your child, know that the Heavenly Father is proud of you for being such a marvelous vessel of the Father’s love for your child. May the Lord bless you and your family as you continuously seek Him daily in all the affairs of your life, in Jesus’ name.
