A Good Prayer Before Court

Going to court or trial is a very serious matter. After all, a particular issue or dispute is being put before a judge and jury, and a decision must be made that serves justice. Prayer is very important whether you are the defendant or the plaintiff. Just the fact that you are going to court so that justice will be served is a good reason to pray to God.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a just God. You hate that which is wicked, and You love that which is a balanced scale. I pray that as I go to court, the trial will be done with balanced scales, resulting in a fair trial. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a just God. You hate that which is wicked, and You love that which is a balanced scale.

Why Pray Before Going to Court?

You pray before going to court because, at the end of the day, you are not dependent on your counsel, the judge, or the jury but on God. If you are the plaintiff, the one who filed a suit against someone, praying to God before going to court is something you should do because you want justice to be served concerning the wrong that has been done to you. Perhaps you did business with someone, and the other party didn’t comply with their end of the contract even though you were faithful to your obligations. Indeed, that is unfair, and justice should be served. If someone has committed violence against you or a loved one, surely you want the suspect to pay for his crimes.

However, praying before going to court is not just for the plaintiffs to ask that their matters be heard and the wrong done to them to be corrected. It is also for the defendants. Some people are accused falsely; genuinely innocent people can be accused of something they didn’t do. Or a wrong may be magnified to the point where fairness is no longer possible. In those cases, it is still important to pray before going to court so indeed justice can be served where innocence is proven.

The same prayer applies if someone is guilty, assuming that the guilty person has repented and truly believes what Christ has done for him or her on the cross. However, even if a guilty person becomes a Christian, they have to face the consequence of what they did. Honoring God means submitting to law and order enforced by the government God has appointed, as written in Romans 13:1-7. But a guilty person can pray as well for justice to be served before going to court. One example is by praying that the punishment he or she receives is indeed a just punishment for what they have done. Or they may pray that their lawyer will give his or her all and not treat their case lightly. A defendant can even pray for leniency.

Whether you are a plaintiff or a defendant, you have concerns, cares, and worries as you go to court. Ultimately, we pray to God before going to court because we ought to humble ourselves before Him and cast those cares to Him, as written in 1 Peter 5:6-7. If we are about to go to court, and we have cares, concerns, and worries of our own, humbling ourselves does not mean that we are just going to handle our problems on our own. Rather, it means we can cast them to God because He cares for us. Therefore, praying to God for our concerns is always wise before going to court.

Heavenly Father, I thank You because You are a God Who cares for us and wants us to cast our burdens, concerns, and worries to You. I have peace as I present these prayers to You because I know that no matter what happens, You reign, and Christ holds all things together. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a just God. You hate that which is wicked, and You love that which is a balanced scale.

How Can I Pray Before Going to Court?

You can prepare for court by praying to God and submitting to Him your prayer requests regarding anything that concerns you about the upcoming trial. A good place to start is to consult with yourself and jot down your concerns. Besides asking for justice to be served, it could be a petition that the jury selected will judge fairly and without bias. Your concern might be the lawyer you have, for him or her to do their best and have the wisdom that they need as they defend you and fight for your case. Perhaps you are falsely accused, and you pray that the judge will dismiss the case as he or she evaluates it. As you go to court, you can present your concerns to God in prayer.

It is written in (6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7) that we are to present our prayer requests to God. By all means, cast and pray to God the cares, worries, anxieties, and burdens you have as you go to trial. The Bible says that as we pray to Him, His peace, which transcends all understanding, shall guard our hearts and minds.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a just God. You hate that which is wicked, and You love that which is a balanced scale.

Below is an example of a prayer before going to court:

Father in heaven, as I go to court tomorrow, I pray that we will have a fair trial throughout. I pray that we have a jury that will judge the case fairly. Give my lawyer the wisdom and grace he needs as he defends my case, and my innocence shall be proven. Please give me strength as well as I go through this. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Father in heaven, I thank You because You are a just God. You hate that which is wicked, and You love that which is a balanced scale.

Going to court can be considered a difficulty that a person is going through. It is never a pleasant thing, whether you are the defendant or the plaintiff. However, regardless of the outcome, a comforting biblical truth to remember is that God is sovereign. It is God Who reigns and not our circumstances or trials.
