How To Pray For A Job You Have Applied For

Whenever we apply for a job, whether we are fresh graduates looking for our first job, young professionals looking to explore other opportunities, or for any reason, we want to be accepted with the job we have applied for. That is true if the job we have applied for is the job we have always wanted, like the industry or career we have always dreamed of, especially if it is the kind of job where we can be a channel of God’s blessing to other people.

Heavenly Father, I pray for a favor regarding the job I have applied for. I pray that I can get the job and work not for men or the company but ultimately for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Why Pray for the Job that You Applied For?

We pray for the job that we have applied for because of two main reasons: One is that everything comes from God alone. (Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.) tells us that God is worthy of all the glory, honor, and power. He created all things, and by His will, they existed and were created. (Psalms 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.) also tells us that the earth and everything belong to God. (Romans 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.) teaches us that from God, through God, and to God are all things. He is the source of everything. Nothing exists apart from God. The company in which you have applied for your job exists because of God. The resources they have that made them the company they are now are only because of His common grace. The wisdom you exercised and the competence you displayed when applying is also not your own but God’s. Ultimately, everything comes from God. Therefore, we come to Him, who is the source.

That leads us to the second reason: We pray because we fully depend on God. He is the source of everything, whether wisdom to be excellent in our job application, favor from the eyes of the company or establishment we have applied for, or the job itself. We depend on God, who is the source.

What Do You Pray for the Job You Applied For?

Indeed, you pray for your job application to go well. How and what you pray for depends on your job application. For example, if you just had a job interview and the interviewer said that they would have to deliberate and contact you if you got the job, then that means that what you can pray to go well is their deliberation. You can pray for favor in their eyes that among the candidates who applied for the job, they will select you. If the scenario is that you are still about to apply, you can also pray for favor that among the many applications they are receiving, they will contact you for an interview or directly hire you.

What you pray is essentially for the job application to go well. Whatever it is exactly in your job application that you would want to go well depends on your own unique scenario.

How Do You Pray for the Job You Applied For?

You pray for your job application by praying that you will get accepted for the job (Philippians 4:6-7). How you pray varies depending on your scenario. First, you can assess what specific area of your job application you need to pray for. If it is the result of the interview, then you can pray for that. It could also be the submitting of your job application. You can even pray for other prayer requests like being offered a good salary, benefits, etc. Note that it is not only to be selected for the job you applied for but also pray for more specific things like your job application being able to reach the company or be read, being contacted for an interview, and the company being able to see what you can offer them, etc.

Aside from praying for a specific area of your job application to go well, you also pray by having a posture of humility before God. That is why you are praying to God. You know that you can have the job only from Him, through Him, and for Him. You pray to God because He is the only One you could fully depend on. In 1 Peter 5:6-7, it is written that we are to humble ourselves and cast our cares to God, who cares for us. Whatever worries, cares, or concerns we have regarding our job application, whether we just had an interview, submitted the application, etc., we cast them to God out of humility, acknowledging our dependence on Him.

Heavenly Father, I come before You in humility, knowing everything comes from You and that the job I have applied for will only be given to me by You and through You. Everything comes from You alone. I pray that the job application I submitted yesterday will reach the HR managers of the company I am applying for and that my application will receive favor in their eyes and give me a chance for an interview. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

While by all means, we pray that you get the job, if you don’t, you don’t have to feel that all is lost. Remember that all things work together for the good of those who love God (Romans 8:28). Also, in (James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning)., it is written that every good and perfect gift comes from God. We can trust that what He gives us is always good and perfect. Perhaps there is an even better job for you. God as a good Father wants that which is good for you, and because of that, you can trust Him.
