How To Pray For A Job Breakthrough

Praying for a job breakthrough can mean many things, so it is best to first understand what praying for any breakthrough encompasses. When we say breakthrough, it means you are praying for something that, unless God works on it, would never happen. A good analogy for this is an army up against an enemy army. They want to break through the blockade of enemies, blocking them and breaking through their military formation. One common characteristic of a circumstance where you pray for a breakthrough is that there is an obstacle. That is why we are praying for breakthroughs regarding legislation in the different states to abolish evil laws in the sight of God, like the abortion issue. That would require praying for a breakthrough because it is not an easy thing to do. It involves the government, the people, and many other factors that can also be obstacles. We also encounter circumstances in our job for which we can pray to God for a breakthrough. No matter what that breakthrough in the job may be, it is something that only God can do. That is why we come before God in prayer and humility—because only God can break through the blockade of obstacles that keeps us from winning when it comes to matters of our jobs.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

How do you pray for a breakthrough?

The first thing that you should do is identify for which specific circumstance in your job you need a breakthrough. One example could be that your performance in your job has been the same for a long time, and you’ve never improved nor stepped up your game. You tried many things to get ahead, but you don’t seem to improve a lot. Somehow, you have found yourself on a plateau. That is a situation for which you can pray to God for a breakthrough. In that example, the breakthrough that you are praying for is that you will break through the plateau of your performance and start improving. That would also mean praying to God for a breakthrough in grace, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to grow in your career. First, identify what specific circumstance you need a breakthrough with, and then pray to God for a breakthrough.

Proverbs 22:29

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

If you pray for breakthroughs in your job, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they must be directly related to your job. It could be that there is a riff between two employees. Praying for a breakthrough here means praying that they would be reconciled to each other after a long time of holding a grudge—a grudge that affects their work and the team dynamics. It could also be something ministry-related in the job you do, like praying for a breakthrough that your boss will allow you to conduct a Bible study group in your workplace after a long time of trying to convince him to allow this.

Here is an example of how you can pray for breakthroughs in your job:

Father in heaven, nothing is impossible to You. I pray for a breakthrough regarding my growth in my job; that I will not remain as I am right now but I will get off of this plateau and improve in skill and knowledge. Give me the grace, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding I need to improve and upskill myself. Help me to break the barrier and grow more. I also pray that my boss shall allow me to set up a Bible study group with my fellow employees and that You would touch his heart so that he may allow me to conduct one. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

How can I pray to get a job?

Praying for such a breakthrough is not only for those who have a job but also for those looking for work. You may have done everything that you can do to get a job. You upskilled yourself to make sure that you are qualified for the jobs you are applying for, and you made your resume better to the best of your ability, perhaps even with the help of some professionals. However, no one seems to have responded or contacted you regarding your job application. Even if you reached the job interview stage, they never contacted you after that. You can pray to God for a breakthrough regarding your job applications after all your struggle and hard work. Here, the breakthrough would be getting a job after all the many job applications you have submitted.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Here is an example of how you can pray for a breakthrough as you apply and look for a job:

Almighty God, You are the God Who works all things. I pray for a breakthrough regarding my job hunting; that one or several companies that I have applied to shall contact me for a job interview and that I’ll be able to shine in it and get hired. I pray that I shall be able to find a job; that this will be the kind of job where I shall be compensated fairly and the work conditions will be good. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

While we may find some struggles in our job and pray for a breakthrough, it is also essential to evaluate why we can’t seem to break through our circumstances. If you are praying for a breakthrough in growth but are too lazy to study and learn to improve yourself, then perhaps you have to deal with that attitude first. Sometimes, it’s not that we can’t break through because of the obstacles. It could also be something wanting in us. The good thing is that, even in that case, God’s grace is available to help those in Christ.
